Guide BEIS into an exciting new digital future

About us

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has a vision to build an economy that works for everyone, so that there are great places in every part of the UK for people to work and for businesses to invest, innovate and grow.

There has never been a more exciting time to work in BEIS - especially within Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT). We have only just begun to consider how we might exploit the options presented by the latest technology. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to play your part in guiding the Department into a new digital future.

The role

As Head of Test, you’ll work with a dedicated team who design, build and run government digital services. Day to day, you’ll research new technology and techniques to implement change, and own their continuous improvement. Your key responsibilities will include:

-Managing the design and execution of business process tests, network and business trials and confidence tests

-Ensuring quality testing is undertaken and that solutions deployed are fit for purpose

-Building the test community

-Leading the support for test capabilities inside and outside government

-Supporting test and associate technical teams, enabling access to relevant people, test tools and frameworks

-Reviewing test standards and procedures to optimise test delivery

-Reporting on the effectiveness of testing for DDaT and identifies improvements to the testing process.

About you

You’re a logical thinker, with experience in test analysis, who can use data to formulate both short and longer term strategic plans. You can visualise, articulate and solve complex problems, and make disciplined decisions based on available information.

As an expert in functional testing, you can run and manage appropriate tests, design appropriate risk-based end-to-end system integration test models, identify the most effective techniques and tools, and communicate your findings clearly to developers.

Benefits

As a Civil Service employee, you’ll be entitled to a large range of benefits, including:

-Regular performance and development reviews

-25 days of annual leave on entry, increasing to 30 days after 5 years

-One further day paid privilege entitlement to mark the Queen’s Birthday

-Flexible working patterns including part- time or time-term working

-Generous paid maternity and paternity leave

-Interest-free season ticket and bicycle loans

-Competitive contributory pension scheme
