Frontend Web Developer

Leamington Spa, WarwickshireOur client, Kwalee, is an expanding, independent mobile games developer based in the beautiful town of Leamington Spa, England, within the area known as Silicon Spa where over 3,000 game developers work.

They have rapidly become a key industry player in mobile gaming, launching several hit games including TENS!, SPILLZ and Looper! with many millions of players around the world.

The company was founded in 2011 by David Darling CBE - awarded by the Queen, co-founder of Codemasters and comprises of a highly skilled and creative team, including the original creator of the Micro Machines video games (yes, you read well, they have celebrities here!).

As Frontend Web Developer you love designing and producing excellent web interfaces and have a passion for games.

What you tell your friends you do:

"I make really powerful web-based tools and ensure that everyone in the company has the software that their need, especially when there don't actually know what their need!"

What you will really be doing:

- You'll be working directly with the server and client teams to create their games server admin interfaces. And closely with the analytics team developing features for their analytics platform WatchTower.

- A portion of the work involves maintaining/improving their extensive games server admin interface and their in-house Analytics platform WatchTower.

- You will be working with a lot of different technologies that make up their worldwide cluster where they support millions of daily players.

- On some projects, specific gameplay features rely on server side counterparts and complex web UI interfaces making for a good change of pace from Analytics and Data entry interfaces.

How you will be doing this:

- You’ll be part of an agile, multidisciplinary and creative team and work closely with them to produce high-quality marketing materials

- You’ll think creatively to produce new ideas and concepts as well as new strategies to improve their presence on social media

- You’ll demonstrate excellent communication skills and an ability to engage with their players

- You’ll work with cutting edge technology - if you need software or hardware to get the job done efficiently, you can get it

Team:

Their talented team is their signature. They have a highly creative atmosphere with around 30 staff where you’ll have the opportunity to contribute daily to important development decisions. You’ll work with an extremely experienced and passionate team, including David Darling and the creator of the original Micro Machines video game.

Skills and requirements:

- Minimum 2 years browser-based programming experience

- A proven track record of programming high quality and innovative web pages using Javascript, HTML5 & CSS3 and relevant frameworks (e.g. AngularJS, NodeJS, Handlebars, jquery, gulp)

- Excellent working knowledge of various programming languages, databases and scripting tools including at least one of bash, MySQL, CouchBase, Python, Java, C#, JSP, PHP

- A creative mindset motivated by challenges and constantly striving for the best

- Interest in mobile games

- You must have the full right to work within the UK

Desirable:

- Knowledge of the Unix, Linux, MacOS or equivalent development environments

- Working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS)

- 2:1 or higher degree in a related discipline e.g., computer science, programming, maths
