The Network Operator will support the MCR facilities by managing the work flow, from booking to delivery of all content for all ITN internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

-Co-ordinate and monitor the transmission of all incoming and outgoing broadcast material through our headquarters at Gray’s Inn Road

-Play a key role in the planning, booking and delivery of video and audio needed to produce ITN programming

-Liaise with internal and external customers and suppliers over the transmission of programme material across terrestrial, radio & satellite and IP networks

-Be in close co-operation with ITV News, Channel 4 News, 5 News, NBC news desk and ITN Productions; ensuring that video files, whether transferred from outside ITN or available locally, are ingested with relevant metadata attached to the video or file

-Plan large outside broadcasts events and assist in the establishment and operation of MCR facilities in the field

-Offer technical advice to editorial and non-technical colleagues when necessary

-Be mindful of costs and the need to control our daily spend on circuit and satellite transmissions

-Be cognisant of safe working practices particularly when assigning colleagues in the field

-Follow operational procedures especially with regard to fault reporting

-Ensure that the input and output programme teams throughout ITN are kept informed about the progress of files and to be aware of the deadlines applying to files within the system

-Carry out all other relevant duties as described by the line manager

Qualifications

-A sound understanding of television news gathering in the field and news production, both today and with evolving technologies

-Good understanding of the technical equipment associated with a NOC area

-A high level of computer literacy including an understanding of IP systems

-Good working knowledge of TV fundamentals

-Good working knowledge of national & international transmission procedures including use of terrestrial & satellite networks

-Ability to foster good customer relations

-Good communication skills

-Ability to prioritise work quickly & accurately against time pressures and programme deadlines

-Keen interest in news and current affairs

-Good sense of timing and punctuality

-Experience within a similar broadcast technical environment

-General & technical qualifications to HND level or equivalent

-Willingness to undertake shift work, weekend working, and night work as required by ITN in accordance with the house agreement

-Knowledge of risk assessment & good health & safety practice
