Junior Application Consultant

Package plus benefits depending on skills and experience

A software and services company that provides integrated Financial Management, Spend Control, Performance Management and ERP solutions to organisations around the UK, and in some cases around Europe. Our innovative solutions help our customers control and streamline their business processes, and ultimately improve their bottom line performance.

The business applications we sell are deployed on the cloud or on premise and come from some of the world's most highly regarded software vendors including SAP, IBM, Proactis and Infor.

About the Role

This is an exciting new role that has been created in recognition of ongoing success in our Financial Systems business. It represents genuine expansion of the team and demonstrates our long-term commitment to deliver on our ambitious growth plans.

The applicant is expected to participate in the delivery of customer projects across our customer base involving Infor SunSystems and Proactis technologies. Project work falls typically into one of three categories: New implementation; Upgrade; and Ad-hoc work.

Our implementation methodology is mature, well-tested and respected by customers. It facilitates clear monitoring and open dialogue with customers about project progress, issues and changes in risks. Stage completion is marked by explicit sign-off of stage completion certificates and by sign-off of related documents including

* Project Initiation Document

* Solution Design Document

* UAT Plan

* Data Migration Plan

* Live Running Plan

* Project Closure Report

* Post Implementation Review

Projects can vary in size from around 10 mandays, perhaps for a short project to upgrade just one application, to larger projects run across many months that are aimed at helping more complex customers implement more complex solutions, perhaps incorporating two or more of our applications.

Ad-hoc work is booked by customers who need assistance with delivery of specific change initiatives. This sort of work can involve a handful of days delivering training, or helping a customer deliver a specific small change, or perhaps it might be a single day with a customer to deliver refresher training or a very small change.

The challenges facing the application consulting team during such projects and ad-hoc assignments are many and varied, and the team is always working against tight deadlines, limited customer budgets, and high customer expectations.

Work done by the consultant is documented and accounted for on a daily Professional Services Report. These are filed with the customer and the Project Office on a regular basis, at least weekly.

In addition to the on-site duties, the applicant will be expected to work within the support department offering 1st , 2nd and 3rd line support to customers as required.

The role includes travel to customer sites throughout the UK, sometimes at very short notice, including overnight stays where appropriate.

Knowledge and Experience

The delivery of projects and ad-hoc work for our customers is the key focus of the job. This requires an impressive mix of business and financial knowledge, technical knowledge, and interpersonal and consultative skills.

The successful candidate will have a good degree and will have some experience of implementing or administering a packaged business application for end users, ideally in an area such as Financial Management, Procurement, Performance Management/Analytics, or Reporting and Business Intelligence.

A working knowledge of Infor SunSystems or Proactis would be an advantage but is not required.

Microsoft SQL Server is a foundation of the applications and therefore a good working knowledge and experience is expected to allow the applicant to be able to understand, adapt and run SQL scripts.

Any knowledge of Microsoft SQL programming, VB.Net, VB6 or ASP would also be extremely beneficial, but is not essential.

About the person

The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, and will demonstrate the following key attributes

* Analytical approach to problem solving

* Understand the difference between effort and outcome

* Be able to work in a high-pressure environment

* Have a strong client focus

* Be a strong communicator

* Be a self-starter - able to motivate him/herself

* Have bags of initiative to think around or through or past challenges

* Be able to manage many competing priorities and deliver successful outcomes
