Web Designer and Front End Developer

Salary: £27,290 - £31,923 per annum (pro-rata) + excellent benefits

Hours: 36.5 per week

Contract type: 6 month fixed term contract

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Front End Developer in our Communications Directorate, we are looking for a creative Front End Developer to join our in-house full-service creative team. Working as part of a multi discipline creative team environment, managing user experience, design and execution of web and mobile applications. Working closely with Visual Designers and content editors to deliver an outstanding customer experience. Whilst delivering the front end development, modification and maintenance of digital channels and application's developed by the Back End Development Team to provide excellent user experience services.

Our in-house design team is a multi-disciplinary creative team, supporting the whole business and some of its partners with design support. A team made up of visual designers, a multi-media designer and front end developers. We are a highly creative customer focused team, modern and forward thinking, driving change through team work and creativity.

About the role

You will be able to specify and develop effective digital communication platforms; developing the front end in line with the user interface designs and functional specifications to provide an excellent user experience, in order to engage effectively with the public, partners and stakeholders to contribute towards the delivery of the WMCA's business priorities. Maintaining a high awareness of industry issues and trends, particularly in regard to accessibility, usability and emerging technologies; keeping other team members informed, with a view to incorporating these in future projects.

You will be responsible for Implementing visual elements that users see and interact with in a web application. Develop new user-facing features and ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs. Integrate data from various back-end services, APIs and databases. You will be able to write well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices

To succeed in the role …

You will be a strong team player who is self-motivated and excited to learn/improve their skillset in the ever-evolving medium of the web. A creative thinker with experience in user experience definition and user interface design. Participate in discussions with clients and team members about technical best practices and help teams identify optimal technical solutions. Understand Agile methodology and instill best practices into the process. You will have proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that applications will adhere to them. You should have experience in building websites in an open source content management system such as Umbraco. Attention to detail is essential.
