ACC Clinical Coder - contract role

London

Our client is a specialist healthcare advisory and service provider to the NHS and independent healthcare sectors. They help clients capture, understand and use healthcare information to inform decision making, improve outcomes, value and commercial efficiency. Their 20+ strong team has a broad range of sector skills and experience including clinical, financial and analytical capabilities.

Job Summary:

* ACC qualified clinical coder working across various NHS and private hospital sites

* Contract role (minimum 3 months) full or part-time (minimum 3 days per week)

* Mainly office-based (Covent Garden, central London)

Key Responsibilities:

* Responsible for the accurate abstraction of clinical information found within patients health records, use judgement and knowledge in assigning the correct codes

* Translate and assign the most accurate clinical codes for diagnoses, co-morbidities and procedures undertaken, adhering to and applying national clinical coding rules and conventions

* Participate in regular training sessions in order to develop and enhance coding specialty skills

* Update national classification books and manuals in line with the national standards released by the NHS Classifications Service

* Hold in confidence all information that may be obtained whilst undertaking the duties of the post

Essential Skills:

* Have a good educational background or equivalent gained through training, qualification or experience in related field

* Have a sound knowledge of the importance of clinical coding and its uses and an understanding of data quality issues

* Have experience of working in an NHS environment

Other Skills:

* Ability to communicate coding conventions, rules and theories to clients who may not have an understanding of clinical coding

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to work unsupervised

* Professional manner
