About us

The Education and Skills Funding Agency is an executive agency of the Department for Education, committed to providing world-class education to everyone. We’re accountable for the funding of education and training, making sure that taxpayers’ money is spent wisely as we equip educators and learners to succeed. We’re leading the way in digital, too, building strategic services that will improve every aspect of education across the country. We change lives every day. And the Data Capture team plays a pivotal role, managing the data that guides our decisions.

The role

As a Lead Software Developer, it’s an exciting opportunity to shape a new IT delivery team from the outset. You’ll lead a team of developers to run and build exceptional digital services - focussing on digital data collection. You’ll make sure they have the resources and support they need. Collaboration and leadership will be key, as you lead specialists and recruitment, and communicate concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Identifying technology for the future, you’ll play a vital role in realising our transformation projects.

About you

If you’re excited about learning, software innovation and driving real transformation, you’ll fit right in. As well as expert coding skills in a core language, you’ll bring the ability to manage a team, ensuring developers conform to good practice and meet high standards. You’ll have experience of mentoring teams to develop their technical skills and careers. And you’ll have a track record of delivering digital projects, as well as the communication and skills that the position calls for.
