The role is based in Blackpool on a 3 month contract paying between £500-£530 per day.
Job Overview
This vacancy exists in the VME Replacement (VME-R) Programme's Technical Delivery Group.
VME-R is moving the department's aged benefit processing systems off the VME IT platform and onto more modern, sustainable and cheaper to run infrastructure. VME-R is using AWS to provide a platform for VME-R Migrated applications
The role is expected to:
* Be Extremely hands-on, highly technical with strong experience in systems engineering to pro-actively deliver AWS VME-R Environments
* Be AWS certified - 'Solution Architect' and/or 'SysOps Engineer' or 'DevOps Engineer' to Professional level desired
* Contibute to the design of AWS VME-R environments and produce a coherent set of requirements for the AWS VME-R environments
* Practical experience with Container technology (Kubernetes, Openshift, Docker)
* Create Containers and Orchestration models
* Create cost model management container management
* Apply all relevant security technologies and assist to implement related cloud security management process
Required skills are a deep expertise in infrastructure delivery methods and hosting platforms (AWS, Serverless architectures), Linux/RedHat, Windows, Oracle, Cloud Computing in the Public Sector, Automated tooling and approaches, SQL Server
Role Purpose
The AWS Platform Engineer is responsible for the end to end development and deployment of AWS Environments to support the programme requirements.
They will manage the technical development and work with (share expertise) the design team,to develop, build and test secure technology platform solutions for future use
They will provide AWS services to support a range of stakeholders and provide required support and assistance
They will make use of their considerable technical knowledge and experience to determine appropriate methodology and use of cloud based technologies, deploying innovative agile techniques to reduce the overall project technical risk and deliver to within cost, time, scope and quality
General Responsibilities
Act as role model for Civil Service Leadership; leading, motivating and inspiring others to deliver outstanding performance ensuring behaviours are not sacrificed whilst striving to deliver.
Accountable for the end to end successful delivery of new AWS and innovative technology services to quality, time and budget on large scale, complex project/programme
Leading the implementation of the AWS IT Change into the Production / Live estate
Communicate effectively with wide range of stakeholders including developers, architects and Business owners. Lead and work adaptively with experienced colleagues operating in more standard delivery processes to unblock technical issues wherever possible.
Actively participate in Technology Delivery Community sharing and re-applying skills and knowledge and bringing in best practice.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
An experienced and skilled AWS Engineer who specialises in building technical cloud based infrastructure;
A deep expertise in:
- Cloud Automation methodologies and scripting
- Oracle workloads on AWS
- Strive to review and improve services as the AWS platform evolves Delivering technical solutions and working within hybrid-cloud enterprise level configurations
- AWS Engineer who can build and deliver CI/CD pipeline
-Be a certified AWS Engineer being able to give specialist advice to others.
-Have a proven track record of successful AWS Engineering delivery
-Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management skills across a wide range of stakeholders
-Significant experience of working closely with a design team to define the technology roadmap for any given AWS service
Desirable:
-Understand and manage/control financial operations for AWS Technology service provision.
-Have experience of working with security related stakeholders and expert teams to enable secure service provision, both for development and production environments.
-Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions. Copes effectively with complexity and change.
-Ability to work under pressure in fast paced environment.
