An exciting opportunity for a Senior Network Engineer (3rd line) to join a leading UK education company. This role is the highest point of internal escalation for all networking requests, projects and strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will need to show a strong sense of ownership and accountability and be comfortable managing operational and strategic aspects of networking infrastructure . The Senior Network Engineer is a key part of IT Infrastructure Team and as such will not only manage the day-to-day operations but direct current and future infrastructure initiatives both in the UK and abroad.
The role is based in Manchester with a salary of £50-£55K plus a 10% on call allowance and an attractive benefits package.
The Senior Network Engineer will: -
Define, implement and maintain networking and security standards across campus locations and primary data centres
Proactively manage, monitor and support the enterprise network and systems infrastructure
Lead/facilitate meetings and presentations to technology and business staff and communicate technical concepts into understandable business initiatives
Maintain and monitor the technical overview of the client’s networking environments
Manage and mentor staff
Manage change control and device configuration management activities on all network systems
Act as SME for escalated issues and questions from technical governance and the wider organisation, as well as providing procedural support
Be the primary driver in the project management of network related initiatives
Requirements
You should have: -
CCNA qualification
A proven track record for achieving results and project management of network projects
Experience as a senior network engineer with management or mentoring responsibilities
Extensive experience and understanding of Cisco Technologies; specifically IOS, NXOS, VLANs and Dynamic Routing Protocols (OSPF, BGP), Cisco WiFi and DMVPN
Some knowledge of Cisco Meraki technology
In depth knowledge of the OSI networking model and TCP/IP protocols
Experience of LAN switching and WAN technologies, or experience involving transmission/traffic engineering and operations
Familiarity of Internet technologies and tools (e.g. Apache, IIS, Tomcat, Weblogic, SMTP, SSL, DNS, firewalls, proxy devices and load balancers)
ITIL experience for incident, problem, and change management
Ideally you would also have:
Experience with security regulations in compliance legislation and other directives, including
Experience with Provider-1 or Check Point's Smart Center management station, Load balancing Big-IP F5.and configuration system
PCI and Sarbanes Oxley and international Security Standards (e.g. OWASP, ISO 27002)
Proficiency with vulnerability management, scanning and monitoring tools
CCNP/CCIE
Systems administration for both Unix and Windows
