About the role

The successful candidate will be recognised as a decision maker and leader in terms of DevOps activities. Working across mixed-experienced teams, you will be expected to bring your own perspective to the role and wider software development. You'll be required to hit the ground running, applying your existing skills and experience to interpret the needs of the teams.

You will be involved in all aspects of the project lifecycle and contribute to the design, build and deploy solutions within multi-discipline teams, working on a variety of technologies from Oracle SOA integration and Oracle BPM through to standalone Java web apps and complex back-end component development. You should expect to be given lead responsibility for the build and deployment of software components, to provide input into architectural decision-making and to assist with the professional development of junior colleagues.

Tasks include:

* Being the recognised expert in the main DevOps technology areas and having a good knowledge of supporting technologies, coding languages and utilities

* Being the escalation point for build and deployment issues within the development team; Prompt escalation of problems, issues and risks as necessary

* Release and Environment Management across multiple products and systems

* Involvement in the production of relevant man-day impacts and also for the validation and review of man-day impacts produced by others

* Being aware of and ensure compliance with all relevant quality processes and procedures

* Playing an active part in Process improvement

* Representing the team at key stakeholder meetings

* Working in a team environment under pressure to facilitate delivery of products to tight deadlines.

Mandatory criteria

In addition to excellent interpersonal skills with a positive 'can do' attitude the successful candidate will have proven experience in the following:

* Extensive OS Administration skills: Linux, Unix (eg. Oracle Linux version 6.7)

* Indepth knowledge of scripting: Shell/Python

* Extensive experience of deployment and build activities relating to Weblogic (11g/12c), Oracle SOA/BPM Suite (11g/12c), Oracle Service Bus (11g/12c) and Java (ear files)

* Continuous Build, Deployment and Integration methodology and tooling experience (Jenkins / maven / Nexus / Ansible / Bamboo )

* Experience of Source Control (Subversion / Git)

* Release and Environment management experience.

Desirable criteria

Knowledge and experience of some of the following would also be beneficial:

* Managing workload across multiple concurrent projects each needing DevOps input

* Agile / Scrum Projects

* Agile tooling such as Jira and Confluence

* Oracle database development and administration

* Full software development lifecycle

* Server virtulization

* Development environment virtualisation (e.g. AWS)
