DevOps Engineer - Java (Sponsotship Available)

My client, a global powerhouse within the banking industry, is looking for a DevOps Engineer with a focus on Java to join their team in London on a permanent basis.

The DevOps Engineer will be working within a global dedicated Development team consisting of technical staff - development and providing support to business users and IT teams globally - for a number of mission critical Front Office IT Applications.

The team has a 'follow the sun' model in place effectively operating a single global team. Teams are located in London, Canada, China, Hong Kong and India. Collaboration and coordination with Global Teams is essential for providing support for Global Users.

Services include Tier-0 Golden Source Market Data applications utilising Oracle database, Linux, Coherence and various front end UI tools. All systems interact with Front Office and Back office systems as well as the General Ledgers. 3rd party vendor like Reuters and Bloomberg are also used within market data services.

Role Purpose

* Provide daily Technical/Development Support across multiple applications, working closely with other teams in the UK and overseas to manage and coordinate the delivery of source data as well as technical updates.

* Ensuring implementations follow best practise design standards in line with business requirements and bank technology standards is crucial whilst conforming to internal and external audit rules.

* Act as point of contact for regulators, users and other IT teams as well as third party vendors.

* Monitor service availability of all supported applications, undertake relevant incident management as well as work towards continual improvement to existing services whilst adhering to tight deadlines.

* Manage governance and audit related to applications within the Cross Asset IT area.

* Representation at Project Steering Committee meetings with senior IT and Business Sponsors.

Responsibilities

Provide daily Technical/Development Support working closely with other teams in the US, UK and overseas to maintain application service levels and deliver Application enhancements to interfacing applications and end-users.

Ensuring change implementations follow best practise design standards in line with business requirements and bank technology standards is crucial. Will require knowledge and understanding of complex infrastructures and server-based applications.

Development

Implementation (including Analysis, Design, Coding, Test and Deployment) of application enhancements - as prioritised by the Business/Service stakeholders.

Service Management

Provide application and technical support for front and back office Users - which will include an element of out-of-hours on-call support. Act as conduit to external parties, within and outside of the company, for support services. Monitor service availability and activity to ensure optimum usage and performance.

Incident Management

Crisis call participation and management. Report on service availability - including recording and logging of incidents in a timely manner. Communication to user community and senior stakeholders.

Problem Management

Managing the lifecycles of all problems and ensuring that incidents are prevented and to minimise the impact of incidents that cannot be prevented. Performing trend analysis of important services or historical incidents. Working with other DevOps engineers to provide permanent solutions - to prevent recurrence of incidents.

Required Experience

* Fluency in Java (min. v1.7) coding.

* Experience of development and maintenance of complex, low-latency applications.

* 5+ years of experience in working in large, fast-paced environments.

* Experience of supporting mission-critical applications.

* Proven track record in development / support role working under pressure to tight deadlines

* Proven ability to translate group standards and best practice into practical application locally, proposing creative solutions and driving implementation

* Proven ability to communicate effectively

* Proven track record of defining support processes, driving implementation.

Desired Experience

* Experience of working with Oracle Databases.

* Experience of Unix/Linux scripting language (e.g. Bash, AWK etc.)

* Able to assimilate new knowledge quickly and adaptable to change.

* Ability to work in a team on call rota supporting 24/7

* Analytical skills to assist in the resolution of complex issues that may be time sensitive.

* Good communication skills, written, verbal and presentational - including communication to end-users and senior Business stakeholders

Desirable Skills

* Experience of working with Oracle Coherence

* Experience of other programming languages - especially C++, C# and JavaScript.

* Experience of working with messaging technologies - especially Solace.

* Experience of performance management, communications protocols and a broad range of technologies

* Experience of monitoring and maintaining tools such as Geneos.

* Experience of Agile methodologies and delivering application change in an Agile fashion.
