New Product Designer (NPD) / Product Design Engineer - World Famous Lighting Brand

Excellent career-development opportunity for a talented Product Designer with proven experience of designing new products, prototyping and mass production to join an iconic British 'designer' lighting brand. Any previous product design experience with brand such as Dyson, Kenwood, Dualit, BTC would be advantageous ++

About the brand:

For over 80 years, we have created lighting products which have become British design classics. In that time, we have redefined all a table lamp has been and can be. More recently we have been broadening our product ranges with world-class industrial designer Sir Kenneth Grange, including our current collaboration with Sir Paul Smith. The business is entering a global expansion phase with rapid growth in distribution and sales channels. This is a new and exciting role based at our Farlington office, near Portsmouth.

The primary role of Product Designer is to design and develop new products and design features in-line with the company NPD (New Product Development) roadmap, and maintain and continuously improve existing products.

We are looking for a highly competent and professional person with extensive experience of product design. You will have:

+ Applicable Degree and / or HNC (Higher National Certificate), HND (Higher National Diploma) in Engineering

+ 5+ years’ experience in an applicable engineering product development role (preferably electro-mechanical)

+ Proven ability to take NPD projects from concept through to mass production

+ An all-encompassing desire to roll up your sleeves and get the job done

Your Technical Knowledge:

+ Good level of competence in the use of mid to high level 3D CAD Package (SolidWorks, Siemens NX or similar)

+ Good level of competence in the use of other design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

+ Detailed knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes for correct specification to production capabilities e.g. plastic injection moulding, die-casting, sheet metal pressings, machining etc.

+ Competent in use of applicable design technology such as rapid prototyping machines, specialised test equipment, etc.

It would also be beneficial if you have the following:

+ Competence in use of other applicable software tools such as Finite Element Analysis, Fluid Flow analysis etc.

+ Completion of accredited Engineering Apprenticeship or Engineering Graduate training programme

+ Chartered or working towards professional registration
