Role: Access Network Design Engineer - VoIP/SIP

Location: Brick Lane, London

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 3-6 months

The Primary purpose of this role is to be VoIP/SIP designer within the Access network domain.

General responsibilities

* Design and maintain technical specifications for access network component of the VoIP end-2-end solution, including SIP ATA specification

* Iterate the above design in order to interoperate with multiple wholesale provider SBC/IMS platforms

* Replicate wholesale network providers' FTTX (Openreach VDSL, G.Fast, GPON) access networks in our Lab and setup the associated VoIP equipment and manage configuration and testing and diagnostic tool recommendations.

* Interact with the Access Network CPE design engineers to ensure end-2-end functionality of the VoIP solution, specifically the interactions and design of the on-board ATA

* Liaise with other parts of the business to proactively analyse trend data of VoIP performance on our ADSL, VDSL, G.Fast and FTTP networks.

Candidate Specification

We are looking for candidates with proven experience within the Telecoms industry, gained in a role responsible for deploying Broadband, Voice and Wireless/Mobile solutions and infrastructure with a network operator. Candidates must have an experience of network design/development and a technical understanding of CSP/Telecommunication companies.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Writing and reviewing high level design technical documentation

* Contribute to and approve legal documentation eg Statement of Work/Requirements, support contracts and RFI/RFP documentation.

* Manage Vendors and third party outsource companies.

* Provide final sign-off of the design and testing within their area of expertise.

Candidates must have in-depth understanding of the problem areas and solutions for delivering a broadband and voice service over the access technologies mentioned above and an experience of broadband and/or voice network testing and performance monitoring tools. Candidates must also have a good understanding of the physical characteristics of different media types (copper, fibre, COAX, WiFi).

Suitable candidates must be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the technologies they have experience in.

As an engineer in the team the candidate will be expected to be the project lead for the projects he/she is assigned to and be responsible for the delivery of other members work within the assigned projects. Also the candidate will be needed to advise and be a mentor for other team members and to write weekly reports for the Team Leaders/managers.

Other skills/characteristics required are:

* Experience with ATA integrated into a residential gateway

* Experience of the SIP protocol and the media transport protocol RTP/RTCP and a good understanding of the IMS infrastructure

* Practical knowledge of SIP messaging, call flows and analysis of packet captures.

* Knowledge of VoIP - both signalling (h.248 / SIP) and RTP (G.711/G.723) and its transport across Access infrastructure and issues that may arise as well as knowledge of core control functions (IMS, Softswitch).

* Knowledge of home networking, communication and management technologies and products (802.11, Ethernet, Powerline, CWMP-TR-069 etc.)

* Experience working with Access Network technologies, including xDSL, Dynamic Line Management (DLM), FTTx, G.Fast and PON.

* An ability to work collaboratively on projects that span a diverse group of technical and non-technical colleagues, to present to Senior Managers level and relevant Stakeholders

* A proven experience of end-to-end product/solution delivery

* An experience of writing professional documentation of designs, test plans, operations handover and support processes

* To analyse the performance of detailed designs in an environment that closely mirrors real scenarios.

* Experience in using Wireshark sniffer tool and analysing sniffer logs

* Ability to "own" problems and drive investigations to conclusion

* Ability to make decisions (technical and program related) without supervision.

* Experience in using line simulators, noise generators, traffic generators

The following skills/experience would be an advantage:

* Experience with Nokia ISAM 7302 and Lucent Stinger

* Experience with Nokia 5530 Network Analyzer-Copper

* Experience with any dynamic line management system

* University Engineering or Computer Science degree or equivalent an advantage.

* Knowledge of the most UK adopted BT SIN and NICC ND standards an advantage

* Other relevant professional network qualifications (eg. CCNA/CCNP/CWNA)
