Radio Frequency Physics Effects Scientist/Engineer

As the Radio Frequency Physics Effects Scientist/Engineer you will be responsible to deliver expertise in the area of radio frequency physics (with a strong focus on high power radio frequency directed energy). To support research, test and evaluation of electronic systems for military and commercial clients through modelling and experimentation.

The role

You will be responsible for direct interaction with relevant customers, users and colleagues, and production of high quality written documentation (e.g. proposals, reports etc).

Delivery of high quality data analysis and interpretation to project leads/customers.

Support project managers to deliver project schedule on or ahead of time and within budget.

Carry out modelling and analysis to design and predict the outcome of RF systems and the propagation of RF and microwave electromagnetic energy.

Carry out testing and measurements to research RF effects and propagation, both in test chambers and on outdoor ranges.

Present research to a variety of audiences including customers and conferences.

The fit

It is desirable to have a background in radio frequency physics and analytical interpretation of data.

Some experience of electromagnetic modelling and electromagnetic fields (EMF) safety calculations.

The ability to provide technical input for experiment and trials design and safety.

Provide examples of carrying out technical tasks and delivering against customer requirements to time, cost, and customer satisfaction.

Demonstrate competence/knowledge in the use of radio frequency measurement systems, e.g. setting up and using a variety of antennas, oscilloscopes and amplifiers.

Demonstrable expertise in the use of software modelling of radio frequency propagation and the application of modelling to safe separation distance calculations.

Be able to apply theoretical principles and concepts to a range of projects. Resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions based on experience and precedents.

Strong behavioural requirements including good planning, organisation and coordinating abilities. We are looking for someone who has great interpersonal skills who enjoys working as part of a team.

Qualifications:

You must hold a formal qualification, such as a first degree or recognised equivalent in Physics or Electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline with typically 2 to 3 years' experience of working in a research laboratory is preferred.
