Our client is the charity that saves lives at sea. The ALC (All-weather Lifeboat Centre), which opened in August 2015, is their very own boat building facility which brings every stage of lifeboat construction, refit and maintenance in-house and under one roof.

Refit work is increasing from 2018 and through 2019, with the introduction of additional All Weather Lifeboat refit cells to the ALC’s ongoing program. Our client has a full order book and fantastic opportunities for skilled technicians to join their teams. They have many years of refits scheduled on Tamar, Severn and Trent class lifeboats, as well as building new Shannon class lifeboats and repairs to other vessels in the fleet.

Our client’s lifeboat crews need a dedicated, professional and talented team behind them.

As a Laminator at the ALC, you will be responsible for the construction and repair/maintenance of marine composite structures for all classes of lifeboat. Working in refit you would be asked to undertake laminate repairs to hull, structure and other components, due to modification or varying degrees of damage sustained during service. As this workload can vary across refits, you may be asked to support other areas of boatbuilding such as vessel strip down or deck fitout.

To be considered, you will need:

- Extensive experience in the manufacture, assembly, modification and repair of composite structures and components in a marine environment

- The ability to work from engineering drawings and follow standardised work

- A City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 and/or BTEC qualification or time served apprenticeship

The ALC offers a clean, organised and safe work environment, with all tools and equipment provided. Our client strives to encourage a satisfying and friendly work environment, with their staff benefiting from an excellent pension, options for flexible working (including a time off in lieu scheme), good annual leave and the knowledge that the work they are doing directly contributes to saving lives at sea.

Our client will be holding interview days for these roles every 2 weeks - once the requirements for this role have been fulfilled, the advert will be closed.

Apply now and come and join our client in the build of this centre of excellence and help save lives at sea!

This is a full time role, working 37 hours per week, 7:30 - 16:15, Monday - Thursday and 7:30 - 12:30 on Friday, plus overtime.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help them deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, our client also looks for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards their goal of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
