About the role

IT Services are excited to welcome a new Head of IT Operations to lead and manage our critical IT Operations function and team.

You will lead the team responsible for the daily operations, preventative maintenance, support and upgrades necessary to provide service and support to our customers - the students and staff of the University. Directly and through your team, you will safeguard the stability of our entire production environment - data centres, networks, systems and applications.

In this role you will ensure that your teams have the knowhow, resources, environment and support necessary to meet their purpose in an effective, ‘customer focused’ and continuously improving manner. You will foster excellent team work and collaborative and supportive behaviours, removing constraints and enhancing working across team boundaries both within IT operations and across the wider IT Service. You will have overall responsibility for around £1.3 million of annual revenue budget within IT Services to support our ongoing service delivery, with associated contract management responsibilities, and you will play a key role within projects delivering new and improved services and capabilities to our customers.

About you

You will have substantial experience of working in a complex IT organisation in a leadership position, as well as a proven track record of running reliable services within a structured environment based on the pragmatic application of ITIL best practice. You will be a strategic thinker who is customer focused; used to working in a matrix managed environment; and capable of working creatively across organisational boundaries to drive constant process improvement.
