Chief Engineer - Major Infrastructure Project

Plymouth - Devonport Royal Dockyard

My client are the owner, operator and licensee of Devonport Royal Dockyard and is one of the principle support partners of the MOD and Royal Navy, responsible for undertaking deep maintenance (refits) on the Royal Navy fleet.

They are embarking on a programme of major infrastructure upgrades to provide modern facilities to support the future warship and submarine programmes at Devonport.

The Company is seeking to build a sustainable, effective multi-disciplinary capability to lead the development and delivery of this programme, working closely with a range of key suppliers and partners.

Initial projects relate to upgrades of a dock and non-tidal berth to support the Astute Class submarines and future programmes. We are looking for a Head of Facility Design to join this strategic team who are about to embark on one of the largest major infrastructures projects within the UK.

As part of the Strategic Infrastructure Design Authority, the primary purpose of the Chief Engineer design post is provision of technical assurance of strategic infrastructure design & safety outputs to Head of Engineering. This will be via application of the technical governance process and leadership of specific technical issues as tasked.

Responsibilities:

* Technical governance of strategic infrastructure design & safety outputs for technical projects.

* Define and contribute to the development of design & nuclear safety processes & standards.

* Assurance compliance with Design and & Nuclear safety processes.

* Provision of independent technical support and advice to Head of Engineering.

* Technical oversight of requirements.

* Develop and plan technical governance.

* Establish policy, arrangements and capability for design.

* Seismic working group chairperson.

* Interface with external and internal stakeholders including ONR.

* Authority for approval of design.

Requirements:

* Experience with nuclear safety and design.

* Senior management leadership skills.

* NSRP Design SQEP

* Design development and management

* Relevant degree

* Chartered
