This is a leading role within our high performing and collaborative Project teams. In practice, you’ll have complete accountability for some of our most impressive - and demanding - projects, often focussed on our flood risk asset management programme. You will be a role model as a talented expert who is a trusted source of advice. You will be a strong mentor to less experienced project managers and others and hold a business portfolio in an area you are passionate about. You will also have demonstrated strong commercial acumen in contract management and developing effective and trusting supply partner relationships.

Naturally, you will build strong collaborative relationships to shape our thinking at the initial strategic planning phase all the way into implementation, construction and delivery; with Project Executive experience being most advantageous. Your role as an outstanding communicator, collaborator and influencer will be critical to the success of the high performing teams, as you’ll be leading and inspiring the integrated project team including our supply partners. The variability of the role is wide and exciting ¬- leading multi-million pound contract negotiations one day; talking to local communities the next. The role will also involve key contract management activities, report writing, cost monitoring and forecasting, feasibility assessment, outline design, environmental management and construction management.

This calls for a relevant degree such as in civil engineering, environmental science or geography, and a deeply impressive history in both contract and project management. Ideally, but not exclusively, you will have experience working on civil engineering projects and be a natural innovator, expert negotiator and champion of good practice. You’ll bring an inspirational gravitas that ensures everything’s done on time to quality and budget.

As a minimum, you’ll need at least six years’ project management experience plus a project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or APM, ideally qualified to practitioner level. You will be a member of a related professional body, ideally chartered, though we can support you towards this. However, what will set you apart is your exceptional record of delivering complex, high-risk projects successfully - and your natural ability to bring big-picture thinking that improves the methods, behaviours and processes with the people you work with.

A full driving licence is also essential, as some travel is involved; although the use of public transport is preferred.

A rewarding environment

There are exceptional benefits to look forward to here, including a generous pension and substantial leave. We offer a range of flexible working options, including flexi-time and part time/job share, where possible, so you can strike the right balance between work and home life. We try our best to accommodate personal commitments.

Naturally, we want you to be the best in your field. So expect training and development that helps you grow professionally. We will also pay your fees for one professional membership.

We value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community who wish to join an organisation which values everyone. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), disabled, female and LGBT+ candidates, so that our team really does represent and understand the communities we work with. We want all our people to feel good about where they work and why they come to work, that they can be themselves without fear of judgement or prejudice and that all views are equally respected and valued. We believe everyone should have an equal chance of achieving their life goals. Diversity: it’s in our nature.
