This role will see you join high performing teams working in collaboration on vital projects across the region, often focused on our flood risk asset management programme. In practice, you’ll take responsibility for the management of projects, and support senior colleagues as you gain experience on our major programmes of work.

Whatever the challenge though, you’ll be involved throughout and take on wide-ranging responsibilities: adding value at the initial strategic planning phase all the way into implementation, construction and delivery. Effective communication and the ability to build great working relationships will be crucial, as you’ll be managing resources, and coordinating an integrated project team, including our supply partners ¬- encouraging the best performance and behaviours within our collaborative teams as you set a path to achieving great outcomes. This role will also involve contract management, report writing, cost monitoring and forecasting, feasibility assessment, outline design, environmental management and construction management.

This calls for a relevant degree such as in civil engineering, environmental science or geography and an impressive history in both contract and project management. Ideally, but not exclusively, you will have experience working on civil engineering projects and be an expert negotiator and champion of good practice. You’ll bring an infectious enthusiasm that also inspires your project team to achieve the best of themselves and the project goals.

Having at least four years project management experience, as a minimum, you should have a project management qualification such as in PRINCE2 or APM. If not already a member of a professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APM, we will support you in achieving this. In addition, the more experience you have of financial and commercial controls, NEC contract suites, CDM regulations and risk management, the better.

A full driving licence is also essential, as some travel is involved; although the use of public transport is preferred.

A rewarding environment

There are exceptional benefits to look forward to here, including a generous pension and substantial leave. We offer a range of flexible working options, including flexi-time and part time/job share, where possible, so you can strike the right balance between work and home life. We try our best to accommodate personal commitments.

Naturally, we want you to be the best in your field. So expect training and development that helps you grow professionally. We will also pay your fees for one professional membership.

We value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community who wish to join an organisation which values everyone. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME), disabled, female and LGBT+ candidates, so that our team really does represent and understand the communities we work with. We want all our people to feel good about where they work and why they come to work, that they can be themselves without fear of judgement or prejudice and that all views are equally respected and valued. We believe everyone should have an equal chance of achieving their life goals. Diversity: it’s in our nature.
