Position: Procurement & Contract Manager

Location: Edinburgh, Glasgow or Perth (Travel to Edinburgh 2 days a week is required)

Our Business Energy business supplies businesses with electricity and gas, offering a wide range of energy contract solutions including fixed and flexible contracts, serving a broad and diverse range of clients from micro businesses to large national corporates.

The Role

You will take the lead on commercial contract management and development activities to ensure we are able to deliver our ongoing commitments to customers and the Energy Solutions business while driving forward our strategic vision. The breadth of our customer and third-party relationships and services means no two days will be the same in this role, with identifying our next great opportunity as important as making sure we manage the day to day.

You will lead the delivery of new commercial agreements, develop existing agreements and establish and maintain effective contract management of existing customer and partner relationships. Taking the lead on evaluation and analysis of existing and proposed commercial structures you will be able to demonstrate the value or risk to the business.

Proactively managing the relationship with our legal team will ensure you are able to progress significant contract developments alongside more discrete and tactical legal requirements. Working across multi-skilled teams you will provide commercial insight on product and proposition proposals.

Your Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role you will be educated to degree level and either be a qualified solicitor or have a legal background and have either made the transition or be looking to transition into a role within the business. Due to your experience, you will:

Have a detailed understanding of the dynamics of commercial and legal agreements

Understand the mechanics of a contract versus operating a service

Have a commercial mindset

Ability to think strategically and negotiate effectively

A strong eye for detail around governance and contractual improvements

The ability to keep a firm grasp on the key levers of profitability whilst identifying, evaluating and driving opportunities for growth

Ability to create and articulate complex commercial proposals at a senior level

With strong communication skills, you will be comfortable building relationships and managing stakeholders at all levels. The ability to collaborate across organisational boundaries, whilst providing leadership on critical commercial activities is essential.

Understanding of industry challenges, regulatory change and impact on commercial opportunities is essential to your success in this role.
