Overview
You will play an active role in leveraging the wider Centrica "data lake" to maximise the reach and quality of our ambitious pricing data enrichment activities. You will be responsible for providing the business with the necessary data and insights to drive its decision-making using a mixture of well-known and emerging tools.
The Role
You will work very closely with your Pricing Data Team colleagues, the wider pricing communities, and our subject matter experts around the business to explore different ways of analysing, presenting and visualising data to drive better business decision making. You will need to: -
-Leverage the coding tools at your disposal (e.g. SQL, R, HiveQL, Python) to proactively identify opportunities to embed new information into the pricing data models
-Deliver, acquire and exploit existing data sources used by the end user pricing community in ongoing and project activity
-Develop pricing data capabilities; deliver a coherent and structured view of technical data that will be used to drive actionable pricing decisions and develop future technical pricing capabilities.
-Engage with Centrica’s data lake strategy, leverage data lake capabilities to design, specify, build and deliver future fit-for-purpose pricing and analytics data capabilities
-Ensure that data is fit for purpose by the transformation of existing data sources into formats that are appropriate for pricing analytics and modelling
-Ensure data quality, completeness and reconciliation processes are adhered to in respect of technical pricing and associated data
-Exploit data science techniques within Pricing and as applied to pricing evolution, with a focus on embracing opportunities to improve the team’s agility through Big Data tools and technologies
-Apply Centrica values in all day to day activities
The Person
You will possess drive, enthusiasm, creativity and excellent interpersonal skills and have a proven eye for detail. You should possess the following qualities and experience: -
-Preparation of large datasets from multiple complex sources for analysis
-Ability to translate complex analysis to less technical audiences

-Approach challenges with a clear eye on what is important; employing the right approach/methods to make the maximum use of time and human resources.
-Ability to detail techniques and discoveries to technical and non-technical audiences in a language they can understand.

-The successful post-holder will hold a BSc/MSc in a numerate discipline (Maths, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, etc.)
You will have relevant experience and be able to demonstrate strong competence in the following techniques and technologies: -
Essential
-2+ years’ experience developing a good understanding of the Hadoop platform and application framework (e.g. MapReduce, Tez, Spark, Hive)
-An understanding of Data Warehousing principles and concepts (2+ years)
-An affinity with maths (e.g. linear algebra, calculus and probability)
-Strong SQL/HiveQL expertise (5+ years)
-Good scripting knowledge in Linux/Unix/Python (2+ years)
Desirable
-Statistical Analysis (e.g. R, SAS)
-Exposure to machine learning tools and techniques
-Knowledge of Data Science disciplines
-Experience in using market-leading visualisation software such as Power BI
-Utilities industry knowledge
