As a Java engineer lead, you will be building greenfield, industry leading platforms and systems based on the very latest & leading technologies, frameworks and platforms.

Using Agile across multiple, collaborative teams, we create customer-focused digital services, data solutions and software. As you would expect, we aim for the highest standards in design, test automation and continuous delivery, which is where your role as Lead Software Engineer (Java) will prove so vital

We are looking for you to ensure the team has the right technology, produce good resilient code and has the capability to prioritise to help achieve our core aims.

Working as part of an Agile software engineering team, you’ll be involved in hands-on coding in Java and will take the lead on the technical aspects of projects, ensuring that designs are resilient and the software is always high quality.

Outside the Scrum team, you will be liaising closely with Lead Engineers, Architects and Product Owners to shape the future of our software engineering - including the adoption of new tools, frameworks and techniques.

We’re looking for someone with a broad range of commercial experience, who has an advanced understanding of Java, firm opinions about quality and experience of technical leadership. You will also have the ability to mentor more junior staff and play an active role in building our engineering community. You will get the chance to learn about distributed computing on Hadoop and geospatial technologies.

Interview

As part of the process you will be required to complete a technical test and also complete an interview that will consist of competency and technical based questions.

You will be interviewed against the following criteria:

› An advanced understanding of Java

› Broad knowledge of design principles and patterns, able to lead the design of systems or components

› A broad range of commercial experience, including crafting good quality code in Java.
