Unix/Linux Engineer

We have a great opportunity for a Unix/Linux Engineer to join an innovative blue-chip based in Hatfield who have been going experience strong growth (41% in the last 2 years) and work with some of the most cutting edge-tech in the industry. The successful Unix/Linux Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, administering and improving their Unix/Linux, Storage, and Virtualisation environments, as well as automating processes where possible using languages such as Shell and Python.

Working as the Unix/Linux Engineer, your role will include:

* Improving the whole lifecycle of Linux-based infrastructure services-from inception and design, through engineering, deployment, and operations.

* Maintaining services once live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health against SLOs.

* Scaling Linux-based systems through automation and API self-service and evolving services by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.

* Participating in the 24/7 on-call support rota.

Skills required for the Unix/Linux Engineer:

* Strong experience in supporting Unix/Linux-based environments and internals, such as filesystems, inodes, kernel-level system calls.

* Experience working with virtualisation technologies, namely VMware and OpenStack.

* Strong automation skills with Python and Shell Scripting.

* Understanding of networking e.g. TCP/IP, network topologies, core services and hardware.
