The National Assessments Centre (NAC) is responsible for producing the authoritative picture of the UK’s understanding of the threat from serious and organised crime (SOC), a key factor in driving the NCA’s activity and protecting the public.

This role involves close working with other UK and International Intelligence, Law Enforcement and Policy partners charged with tackling SOC and its impact on the UK.

As serious and organised crime is defined as a ‘national security’ concern, the NAC also works with the UK Intelligence Community and counter-terrorism policing to assess the crossovers between serious crime, terrorism and other national security issues. Additionally, the centre works closely with key international partners to ensure that assessments truly reflect the global nature of the SOC threat.

NAC roles are diverse. Officers are responsible for the production of intelligence briefings and assessments across the full spectrum of the serious and organised crime threat, and are able to draw on a wide and ever-growing intelligence base and range of sources to inform their analysis.

Assessments produced by the Centre reach senior readers in both operational and policy environments, ultimately informing the work of Whitehall, the Prime Minister chaired National Security council and Law Enforcement up to Chief Constable level.

Consequently, the successful candidate will be required to draft high quality evidence based products that articulate impact, relying on strong analysis and a range of analytical techniques, often to tight deadlines.

Excellent communication and influencing skills are a must. Successful candidates will need to engage with stakeholders and customers of all levels, developing strong working relationships to understand customer needs, intelligence requirements, tools and techniques; and to communicate their findings appropriately.

On a daily basis, this role involves reviewing all source intelligence to ensure an up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of the threats.

Flexibility is a key factor of this NAC role. Each officer will be expected to develop subject matter expertise in specific aspects of the SOC threat, however there will also be an expectation for officers to identify cross cutting issues, work across threats to meet demand and utilise their skills to address emerging issues.

At any one time, officers are likely to be leading the production of an in-depth strategic assessment, whilst also having responsibility for shorter, timely intelligence briefs and supporting colleagues with their work.

The development of the NAC into a truly multi-agency endeavour is currently one of the top priorities of the NCA. By joining the team at such an exciting time, you will be part of one of the fastest growing and highest profile parts of the NCA as we strive to become a centre of excellence for strategic intelligence assessment. To achieve this, the NAC is fully committed to learning and development. We offer all staff training through formal and informal learning opportunities that will help develop your skillset. As a member of the Professional Head of Intelligence Assessment, the NAC is also able to offer broader training opportunities and the chance to work with analysts from the wider UK Intelligence Assessment community.

Are you ready to join the team?
