Networks Project Manager - INSIDE IR35

A Networks Project Manager is required to be responsible for managing internal resources and the recently appointed Network Supplier who will be developing a transformed Local Area Network, transitioning it into service and subsequently operating it. This is a complex, high value project which requires strong project/delivery management skills, strong supplier management skills, commercial awareness and a good understanding of both legacy and contemporary networking skills. The role will involve considerable interaction with estates teams and other internal stakeholders. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ROLE IS INSIDE IR35.

Essential Skills and Experience:

*Demonstrable track record in having delivered network transformation (LAN/MAN) projects.

*Solid understanding and practical experience on the implementation of Software Defined Networks

*Considerable experience of external supplier management and on commercial negotiations

*Track record of delivering complex network projects to timescale, budget and quality standards

*Has a good understanding of HPE Aruba technologies, both wired and wireless (this is the new technology being implemented) and CISCO Technologies (this is what is being replaced)

*Has a good understanding and experience of project managing wireless LAN design and deployment activity within a LAN environment

*Has a good understanding of DNS, DHCP, IP Address management and associated best practice

*Has a good understanding of SDN Data Centre network technologies and migration strategies. The University will be moving to an Arista DC architecture.

*Have a good understanding of the issues involved in the installation of cabling in a LAN and across a Metropolitan Area Network

*Have a good understating of the relevant Health & Safety Executive (HSE) legislation

*Ability to communicate and engage effectively with Strategy and Architecture (Enterprise level), delivery and operations personnel on complex technical issues with regard to the Networks Project

*Excellent written and spoken communication skills

*Provide financial and budgetary information to support future business case submissions

The following are Highly Desirable:

*Have clear leadership skills and the ability to influence and persuade stakeholders

*Understanding of the Academic Calendar and the issues this will have on implementation and access to buildings etc.
