Infrastructure Specialists (Network), 12+ Months, Durham, Inside IR35

As a member of the technical services team the Infrastructure Specialist (Network) you will be part of a team responsible for the managing the provision of support and maintenance for a range of network infrastructure and systems. You will work with our client's Architecture & Security function and established partners to support the network infrastructure to meet the existing and future need.

You will have suitable specialist technical knowledge and the ability to manage the network infrastructure to agreed service levels and will be responsible for coordinating support around the configuration, deployment, support and maintenance of the data network. This will encompass the firewall, fibre, copper and wireless infrastructure. The Infrastructure Specialist (Network) will have a very high level of technical knowledge, experience of customer service delivery, risk management skills and the ability to convert business requirements into viable technical solutions.

Duties

* Be part of a team that take responsibility for the operational delivery across the University of data network systems, both wired and wireless.

* Coordinate network traffic and the firewall, traffic shaper, VPN, Network Access Control and other network security components.

* Continually develop and improve the resilience of the network infrastructure

* Anticipate changes in technical delivery and identify cost effective solutions.

* Promote best practice

* Ensure adoption of standard tools and best practice for data networking.

* Develop and provide end user training and support.

* Create and maintain operational and systems documentation.

* Adapt workloads in order to meet deadlines and problem solve in a pressured and complex technical environment, ensuring service and operational levels are met and adhered to.

Key Skills

* Cisco CCNP

* Cisco CCNA

* HP Enterprise / Aruba Wireless Accreditation

* ITIL Foundation

* Graduate level or professional qualifications in computing or related field

* Experience with solutions design, either formally or as part of an infrastructure role

* Proven experience of service operation and continual service improvement

* Ensuring compliance with architectural frameworks

* Experience using network management and monitoring tools (e.g. IMC, Statseeker)

* Proven experience of managing a team of IT technicians

* Strong understanding of corporate LAN and WAN data networks, with a thorough understanding of data network principles, standards and technologies, including wired and wireless.

* Extensive knowledge of Cisco switches and routers

* Experience with support and configuration of HP & Extreme switches

* A good working knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS, etc) and switching (VLANS, STP, etc)

* Proven working knowledge of firewall and other network security products such as Palo Alto, Juniper, Checkpoint, F5

* Definition of standards and solutions and provision of relevant documentation and training for data network systems
