Senior Network Engineer

My nationally recognised, market leading client is looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join their growing IT Team at their Burton upon Trent offices.

The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for managing and continuously developing a network infrastructure that supports the needs of a fast paced and growing company, working with the wider IT department and the business to support the development and maintenance of computing technologies and contribute to the day to day support of network infrastructure.

Key responsibilities:

*The support, operation and control of all equipment within the IT network infrastructure including monitoring and troubleshooting LAN, WAN, Wireless and VoIP systems

*Implementing agreed network configuration, installation and maintenance routines

*Using network management tools to collect and report on network load and performance.

*Network problem resolution either directly or via management of a third party specialist

*Working with the team to produce proposals and pipelines for continuous improvement of the network infrastructure

*Investigation and diagnosis of complex, cross team IT problems, working with users, other staff and suppliers as appropriate

*Supporting Major Incident processes including Root Cause Analysis and remediation actions delivery

*Managing the network to provide agreed levels of service and data integrity

*Ensuring that network performance and traffic is monitored and reviewed proactively to identify any risks or issues

*Producing network design policies, philosophies and criteria covering connectivity, capacity, interfacing, security, resilience, recovery, access and remote access

*Creating and maintaining documentation relating to internal processes, network configuration and third party suppliers

*Working with the IT Infrastructure Manager, act as the owner and gatekeeper of changes to the network required from projects or new software/hardware deployments

Key skills and experience required:

*Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, WLAN, and VoIP design and implementation in predominantly Cisco enterprise environment.

*In-depth knowledge of Cisco ASA, Nexus, Wireless LAN Controllers, ADSL routers, etc.

*CCNA/CCNP qualified

*Proven experience of managing third party telephony providers

*Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices

*Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience

*Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits

*Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws

*Working technical knowledge of network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards

*Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate with customers, without becoming overly technical

*Ability to communicate with multiple levels of the business, be that other IT Teams or management teams

*A passion for technology - a demonstrable background in self-initiated technology projects/experiments required
