Platform & Infrastructure Engineer - Permanent - Suffolk- Salary DOE

As a member of the Platform and Infrastructure Engineering Team, you'll be working within a fast paced, constantly evolving team, that own the delivery of world class, performing and secure. You'll be someone who is passionate about technology, and keeping abreast of the latest changes in technologies and their impact.

Depending on your role you may be responsible for managing people to help develop future engineers. You must have a proven track record of driving standards and best practice and have an in-depth knowledge of the full engineering life-cycle and Systems Engineering practices from requirements/user story capture and decomposition through to integration, acceptance and customer sign off.

You will be expected to be extremely hands on and technical and it is essential that you have demonstrable up-to-date skills, whether you're an architect, lead, or developer, it is key to have a number of the following interests and skills:

* An in depth working and administrative knowledge of one or more of the following Operating Systems: Linux (RedHat/ CentOS, Ubuntu, Fedora), Microsoft Windows.

* Understanding of backup and restoration processes required for 24x7 support, including development of documentation for 1st and 2nd line support teams.

* Virtualisation/containerisation technologies, VMware (ESX and VCenter), xen, virtualbox, docker (and Kubernetes/Swarm).

* Automated system build, using Ansible, Puppet, Foreman, Kickstart (including PXE) and Microsoft Deployment tool kits.

* Understanding of configuration and deployment of network file sharing storage services, including SAMBA or NFS and high availability enterprise storage platforms including Netapp, Dell or EMC.

* Delivery and configuration of monitoring applications, such as nagios, openNMS, solarwinds or Zabbix with experience of writing own checks for custom application health monitoring for 1st and 2nd line monitoring teams.

* In depth knowledge of software methodologies including Waterfall/V model, agile, lean, incremental and ability to work within them across projects.

* Experience of driving efficiency and effectiveness through a strong configuration management approach to release, along with solid test and automation principles.

* A strong ability to automate repetitive tasks using scripting languages like Python, Bash, KornShell, PowerShell.

* A strong ability to ratify requirements against acceptance criteria.

* Patch deployment and verification.

* Strong appreciation for Service Management, Service Delivery, Transition to Operations (TTO) and ITIL methodologies would be advantageous.

* Deployment and administration of big data platforms using Cloudera or Hortonworks.

* A recognised professional certification such as such as INCOSE, ITIL, CISSP, SANS GIAC, Security+, Network+, Linux+, MCSE, CCNA or SSCP would be highly desirable.
