Technical Relationship Consultant

Ordnance Survey has an opportunity available for a Technical Relationship Consultant to join the team. This role will be home based and you will ideally be located in the North of England. About the role:

As our Technical Relationship Consultant, you will be providing technical consultancy and support to a wide range of Public Sector customers including key Government Departments, Local Authorities, City Councils, Emergency, Energy and Infrastructure providers and a number of OS Partners.

We are looking for a high energy, self-motivated Geographic Information (GI) professional with strong technical aptitude and industry experience.

This role would ideally suit a home worker and you will be based in the North of England, with willingness and ability to travel throughout GB and make monthly trips to OS in Southampton.

Key duties and responsibilities:

- Be an advocate of progressive software development techniques and proficient in the use of GIS, data converters, database creation and maintenance, web mapping and middleware and associated programming languages

- Work with our Government Relationship Managers supporting the development of business proposals and project plans that reflects scoping, scheduling and resourcing

- Provide technical advice to the business, customers and partners to maximise customer value

- Develop and present solution frameworks to clients, drawing on external practices from other agencies / partners and industry knowledge

- Provide technical input and post-solution support demonstrating the ability to influence and inform

- Qualify opportunities and identify customer business objectives, collaborate with colleagues to write adequate propositions and proposals - develop specifications and estimates for the delivery of proposed solutions

Skills and experience required to be our Technical Relationship Consultant:

- Strong analytical skills to enable effective planning and decision making

- Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills

- Ability and gravitas to build and maintain excellent working relationships and manage senior stakeholders

- Bring industry credibility when interacting with decision makers

- Proven ability to work to tight and changeable deadlines

- Great at analysing requirements and identifying key decision points within the proposition lifecycle

On the technical side, we are looking for evidence and knowledge of one or more of the following:

- GIS (ArcGIS, MapInfo, QGIS, Cadcorp)

- Data Converters (FME, ProductivitySuite, Go Loader, Astun Loader, GDAL)

- Databases (SQL, PostgreSQL, POSTGRES, PostGIS, DB2)

- Web mapping and middleware (Aptana, GeoServer, OpenLayers, Leaflet)

- Programming languages (Python, HTML, CSS, JS)
