This is an exciting and important new role at Lumos, leading our drive to put data and evidence at the heart of the work we do to help children around the world. You will be an experienced data professional with the know-how to lead the design and delivery of new data systems, meeting our ambitions for continuous learning and improvement. You will also share our determination to use evidence for impact, applying your analysis and visualisation skills to bring data alive in ways that build understanding and drive action.

Lumos is an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded by J.K. Rowling. Our vision is of a world where all children have the opportunity to grow up and thrive in loving, nurturing, protective families. We believe that children belong in families not orphanages and we aim to achieve our vision by 2050. We will do this by casting light onto the causes of institutionalisation and producing high-quality, compelling evidence of our long term, sustainable solutions.

Data and evidence are at the heart of everything we do. In this vital role, you will lead the design, implementation and delivery of new data systems, providing a flexible platform for case management, programme monitoring, evaluation and research data that meets the needs of internal customers and other key stakeholders. The design and implementation of an overarching Outcomes Framework will also fall within your remit, as will the development of core processes and guidance for data collection and data processing, including quality assurance. At the same time, you’ll harness the power of data visualisation to bring information alive, build understanding and galvanise action. Your dedication to driving a culture of continuous learning and improvement across Lumos will ultimately help us to effect meaningful change in policy and practice. Some international travel is required.

You must hold a postgraduate degree (or equivalent applied experience) in a relevant discipline, and have a proven ability to identify and critically appraise research evidence and convey your findings in a clear, compelling and impactful way. Expertise in a broad range of evaluation and research methods is essential, with experience of managing the research lifecycle from study design through to developing instruments, collecting data and reporting findings. Your quantitative analysis skills must be advanced, with knowledge of packages such as SPSS, STATA, R, Tableau and GIS Mapping. A commitment to children’s rights and international development is essential.

To enable us to make safer recruitment decisions we use the Disclosure & Barring Service to vet candidates as part of our selection process.
