Agile Business Analyst - Government

Role Profile:

The Business Analyst operates as a member of a project delivery team. They are responsible for creating, communicating and maintaining analysis artefacts such as: user stories, requirements specifications, logical data models, and business process models. The Business Analyst supports the Product Owner in managing the product backlog. In large project environments, the Business Analyst may coordinate and govern business analysis activities across multiple delivery teams.

You will be required to work under the general direction of a project manager or scrum master, within a clear framework of accountability, and exercise substantial personal responsibility and autonomy.

You will be expected to plan your own work to meet given objectives and processes, and to participate in activities related to your own specialism, making decisions which influence the success of projects and team objectives. The work includes a broad range of activities, in a variety of contexts, investigating, defining and resolving complex issues.

Responsibilities include:

Our client are looking to appoint a Business Analyst to carry out the following key activities/tasks:

* Creation, maintenance and communication of analysis models and requirements specifications that meet the Product Owner's approval

* Working with the Product Owner, the project delivery team and other stakeholders to generate, elaborate, and prioritise product backlog items

* Ensuring the project delivery team understands the business domain and the items in the product backlog to the level needed

* Act as proxy Product Owner in the absence of the Product Owner

* Ensuring that best-practice analysis tools and techniques are followed and improved on

* All projects are run with the Agile & Scrum methodologies. This necessitates participation in the Scrum ceremonies and creation of agile requirements artefacts such as acceptance criteria

* Other information

Work Experience:

* Business Analyst on projects following Agile principles

* Use of best practice analysis tools and techniques, including process modelling, data modelling, user stories and Behaviour Driven Development

* Proven capability of managing/delivering solutions on time, to budget and to a high level of quality.

Essential Knowledge:

* Ability to analyse/understand customer requirements and communicate them to others in a logical and concise manner

* Process modelling techniques, e.g. BPMN

* Logical data modelling techniques

* Writing User Stories to support Behaviour Driven Development

* Selects appropriately from applicable standards, methods, tools and applications

* Communicates fluently, orally and in writing, and can present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences

* Facilitates collaboration between stakeholders

* Plans, schedules and monitors work to meet time and quality targets

* Rapidly absorbs new information and applies it effectively

* Maintains an awareness of developing technologies and their application and takes some responsibility for driving own development

* Has a working knowledge of Agile and Lean concepts as applied at scale

* Holds the values, and applies the principles, of the Agile Manifesto

* A highly structured and organised approach to working

* Ability to work both individually and as an effective team member

* Ability to think on your feet and show initiative

Desirable Knowledge:

* Other Business Analysis certification (e.g. BCS Diploma)

* Requirements gathering methodologies

* Enterprise Architecture modelling (such as OpenText Provision)

* OpenText MBPM (formerly Metastorm e-Work), Cordys or other Business Process Management software such as Bizagi, Pega etc.

* Workflow modelling

* Database modelling

* Decision modelling
