Our Central Government client are recruiting for a Portfolio Planner with recent experience in a Central Government role.

The planning professional will provide visible and effective leadership, leading planning activities across the portfolio, including offering support at project /programme level. The successful candidate will develop a clear vision and standards, championing the use of best-practice project planning standards, tools and processes, building strong networks both internally and externally.

The specialist will work very closely both with Home Office policy and Operational teams, enabling functions such as Technology and Commercial, and with PPM counterparts across the Department.

Role

1. Lead the overarching planning work for the portfolio.

2. Provide expert advice for team members and the wider stakeholder community throughout the lifecycle of the different projects, including delivery of comprehensive knowledge transfer collateral.

3. Ownership and maintenance of the master project/portfolio plans, including dependency identification and mapping, and analysis and successful resolution of risks and issues.

4. Direct workstream leads to encourage and support the creation of detailed local plans to sit under the master project plans, including identification of future capacity and capability needs.

5. Lead the analysis of performance data, identifying areas of improvement and collaboration.

Key Skills/Experience

* Industry-leading knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling programmes, including risk management, dependency mapping and resource allocation

* Proven leadership experience of delivering similarly complex programmes / portfolios

* Proven track record of engaging and managing multiple stakeholder groups, demonstrating expert influencing skills to obtain agreement and co-operation

* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to form reasoned conclusions and recommendations

* Excellent analytical skills, demonstrating the ability to interpret, distil and present data insights

* PRINCE2 Practitioner

* Experience of working in Central Government

* Dynamic and adaptable, with the ability to balance and prioritise across a broad range of subject areas

* Experience of working in the Home Office

* Microsoft Project Professional Advanced user

* Hold a recognised project planning qualification

* Demonstrable experience of successful up-skilling / knowledge transfer to a broad range of stakeholders, including appropriate supporting examples

* High degree of personal resilience and stamina

* High tolerance for ambiguity
