If the answer is yes, then First Utility has a great opportunity for you to work as a Junior Data Scientist in our Data Science team, which sits within the wider Data and Insights Group, based at our HQ in Coventry.
We are a multi-disciplinary team with experience in data science, machine learning, natural language processing, statistics, data visualisation and data engineering. As well as maintaining core data products, we work with all parts of the business to implement initiatives that deliver more tailored services and a better experience for our customers.
The role is focused on applying machine learning and statistical approaches to implement both supervised and unsupervised models. You will work with a range of exciting data sources from across the business to reveal both commercial and creative benefits. Examples of the valuable outcomes that have been implemented include the following:
- Reduced churn and improved retention through predictive modelling;
- Supported operational planning by applying a range of time series forecasting models to predict daily volumes of inbound calls;
- Reduced complaint ratios by analysing customer sentiment using NLP techniques on electronic message streams to trigger proactive service intervention.
You will work closely with senior stakeholders to solve strategic challenges and deliver real value to make a positive difference to the business and our customers. Reporting to the Principal Data Scientist, you will work within an agile team, prioritising the most valuable projects and products, whilst ensuring the data science function delivers on those projects.
At present we predominantly use a mixture of R, Python and Spark for data science, Impala Hadoop for data wrangling and Tableau for data visualisation, although we are open to new tools that can bring more value to the team. Collaborative working and knowledge sharing are important aspects in the team, as well as is having an open mind to learn and try new innovative techniques.
