The Athena consortium comprises of nine forces working together to deliver a ground breaking operational IT system.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of technical Lead, contributing to the work within the Athena programme teams, utilising their technical expertise in order to support the development of operational policing systems, driving efficiency and effectiveness across the nine Athena forces.

This new role will provide technical leadership, guidance and expertise to Athena stakeholders to ensure that regulatory compliance and system risks are managed effectively. They will ensure that efficiency of delivery is maximised and value for money is achieved for forces, guiding and influencing future developments and integration with other systems and platforms.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ proven experience of supplier outsourcing and supporting delivery teams in the public sector, as a technical leader, including design implementation and troubleshooting of systems during a development lifecycle. They will also have extensive technical knowledge of current and emerging information and communications technologies and the assessment of their relevance and potential value.

The post holder will deliver a strategic, professional representation on behalf of Athena forces and must have credibility and the confidence of Chief Officers, senior personnel and stakeholders. They will need to have a strong grasp of project management principles and processes, and an awareness of ITIL.

The role will necessitate occasional travel around the Athena Forces and beyond, but much of the post-holder’s time will be spent at Chelmsford, Essex, where the Athena Management Office and many key stakeholders are based.

The role will be offered on a 2 year fixed term contract basis.
