JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Server Specialist is responsible for leading and performing activities relating to the Volkswagen Financial Services server and network

infrastructure and for supporting it during any enhancements. Experience of the Microsoft and Citrix technologies used e.g. Active Directory, Windows Server, Exchange Server, SQL Server, Virtual Server and Client solutions, Operations Manager, Cluster Server is key to this position together with a good knowledge of storage area networks, security and backup/recovery products.

This role requires the building of close working relationships with both Head Office in Germany and internal customers at all levels, and the ability to successfully complete assigned project tasks and activities on time is essential. You will also work with suppliers in the implementation and support of server and network infrastructure and the support.

The Server Specialist is responsible for providing out of hours support as per the company's IT Call Out and On-Call Policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

? Participates in projects and change requests as assigned.

? BAU Operations support and Projects

? Provides advice and guidance to other team members.

? Liaises with Head Office Infrastructure team in Germany to manage updates and

enhancements.

? Must be able to demonstrate experience and high level knowledge of the support, administration and design of the following technologies:

? Manages disaster recovery and business continuity exercises.

? Leads the day-to-day administration of the server and network infrastructure.

? Update and on-going support of the VWFS servers and data network.

? Identifies system changes and update requirements.

? Capacity planning and enhancement of existing services.

? Investigates new trends in server and network technology.

? Evaluates server and network products and makes recommendations.

? Error reporting and resolution of faults.

? Participates in disaster recovery and business continuity exercises.

? Escalates errors and faults with suppliers as needed.

? Monitors network and server availability and produces service reports.

? Supports secure remote access solutions for connectivity to IT internal services.

? Deputises for the IT Infrastructure Manager in their absence.

? Assists the IT Infrastructure Manager in budget planning.

? Assists the IT Infrastructure Manager in the strategic development of the server and

network infrastructure.

? Ensures that the end user systems are securely configured and protected as defined by the Computer Usage Policy.

? Prepares application installation packages and operating system updates and installations.

? Performs license management to ensure that installed applications and software is correctly

licensed.

? Manages the data cabling between central services and office outlets.

? Tests, and installs, security updates, hot fixes, screensavers wallpapers etc.

? Virtualisation Server & desktop technologies, preferably VMWare ESXi, View. Citrix

? Highly motivated, good team player who can work on their own initiative.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Mandatory

? Demonstrable experience as a server specialist.

? Experience using Citrix Xen App, Xen Desktop, Provisioning Server, Edgesight, Web

Interface, Access Gateway. (Desirable)

? Experience using Appsense Environment Manager, Appsense Application Manager,

Microsoft App-V.

? Comprehensive understanding and ability to use VB Script and MSI for creating application packages.

? Proven knowledge of Fax solutions

? Proven knowledge of anti-virus products.

? Proven knowledge of backup and recovery products.

? Proven knowledge of electronic mail and web filtering products.

? Proven knowledge of data communications networks.

? Proven knowledge of firewalls and security products/protocols.

? Knowledge of network security threats and how to combat them.

? Knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies.

? Knowledge of Altiris Deployment and Notification Solutions.

? Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

? Highly motivated and able to work under own initiative with no supervision.

? Able to take ownership of problems and issues and proactively resolve.

? Proven interpersonal and negotiating skills.

? Demonstrate a customer service focus.

? Ability to prioritise, self-manage and to work effectively with others.

? Technical Documentation Skills (Essential)

? Microsoft core server products including

o Exchange, (Desirable)

o SQL 2008 / 2014 Experience (Desirable)

o SharePoint, (Desirable)

o Lync / Skype, (Desirable)

o Microsoft Active Directory (Essential)

o Infrastructure including -WINS, DNS, GPO's, DFS, domains, forests, trusts.

o Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems and office applications. SCOM

configuring, monitoring, and administration.
