Ordnance Survey has an opportunity available for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team based in Southampton. About the role:

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Ordnance Survey’s Engineering department, which develops and maintains the IT systems and infrastructure that drive our world-leading geospatial and business applications.

Working in an agile team, this exciting role will require you to understand business requirements and develop the appropriate solution that meets business needs.  Your knowledge will encompass a wide variety of techniques and technologies, allowing you to build scalable, performant systems that are easy to maintain and support. Experience around Deployment, Debugging, Testing, Scaling and Monitoring modern cloud-based systems is desired.

You will have the opportunity to work with stakeholders, Project Managers and Delivery Managers to help shape the project delivery and the team. You will look to continuously improve the engineering capability in all aspects of the engineering lifecycle through coaching and mentoring. We will encourage you to identify opportunities to maximise development benefit within your team, and there will also be the opportunity to provide 3rd Line level support for existing Live systems. Therefore, the abilities to learn quickly and think creatively are essential.

Skills and experience required to be our Senior Software Engineer:

You will need to demonstrate your track record against the following essential criteria:

- Expert knowledge and skills in software engineering and industry best practice, such as TDD and SOLID

- Demonstrable skills in Microsoft Azure and coding using C#, Java, Python, or a similar language

- Demonstrable ability to coach and mentor an engineering team

- Very good track record in influencing key business & technical stakeholders

- Proven track record in implementing new engineering techniques within a development team
