Web Designer

Location: York

Salary: £27,500 - Fixed term contract for 6 months

The role

A leading public sector organisation is looking for a web designer to join their existing digital team on an initial 6 months fixed term contract. You will be taking a lead role in the design and implementation of new front-end layouts and content types on the website as part of a large-scale website redevelopment project. You will also need to manage the design, creation and implementation of a new digital pattern library to support the continued development of the website and digital platforms.

You will:

*Take a lead role in the design of new page layouts and content types to fit with the values and ethos of the University's brand, deliver excellent user experience, meet AA accessibility standards and improve key user journeys and conversion goals.

*Take a lead role in the creation, development and implementation of a new digital pattern library to develop a central resource of website components and CMS templates to be used by internal and external website developers.

*Produce high quality, efficient, standards-compliant HTML, CSS and JavaScript to be deployed across a variety of digital platforms including the University website, email templates and digital signage.

*Work with the Website Manager and external design and development agencies to identify, develop and deploy robust and efficient CSS and JavaScript frameworks across digital platforms.

*Work with the Website Manager, Website Co-ordinator and CMS provider to translate front-end designs into efficient, flexible and user-friendly CMS templates.

*Work with the Digital Experience Designer to translate low-fidelity wireframes and mockups into fully formed designs and prototypes. Work with key stakeholders to further refine designs and develop and deploy using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Skills needed:

*Experience of web design

*Ability to edit/write HTML and CSS coding

*Experience of using a Content Management System

*Experience of using Google Analytics or other analytics tools

*Knowledge of website accessibility issues

*Experience in the use of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer)
