About the Online Business Performance Team

The team are a linchpin within Online providing the clarity and focus required to ensure that at all times there is an integrated point of view on the performance of the Online business and supporting the development of a range of opportunities and choices to ensure the business is on or ahead of budget and other performance and/or strategic commitments.

We lead the development of Tesco's overall Online business plan, using analysis and insight to drive future direction and we measure the performance of the Online business against the plan as well as leading optimisation of key trading events and opportunities.

We work closely with the Online MD and Senior Leaders across Tesco (e.g., Fulfilment, Marketing, Product, etc).

This position will be dual-located across our Welwyn Garden City campus and Farringdon office

Main Responsibilities

The Role: Online Business Planning Manager

Whilst responsibilities may need to flex around the changing needs of the Tesco Online business, the following provides an overview of the role's key responsibilities and measures:

* Deliver a clear and robust business plan that will enable Tesco Online to achieve its financial, customer and Colleague targets for the year ahead by coordinating and facilitating the annual business planning cycle, monitoring and communicating progress against the business plan and managing the identification of and decisions needed for any in-year changes required to the business plan

* Engaging key programme stakeholders within and outside of governance forums, ensuring the successful articulation and monitoring of the business plan across the Online team and wider Tesco business (this will span Colleagues at all levels - stores / drivers through to the Exec)

* Regularly review the business plan and identify any potential changes required (e.g., to add a new initiative or adapt the plan due to changing market conditions), working with key enabling and delivery teams to adjust delivery milestones as required and managing any impacts to financial, customer or Colleague targets

* Be the Online lead for managing the interface of the Online business plan with wider Tesco business plans (e.g., Commercial, Marketing, other Channels) and in negotiating how the Online business plan co-exists with other business priorities

* Be the Online lead in working with the Group Business Planning team to ensure the Online business plan aligns appropriately with the strategic drivers and Tesco UK strategy and manage the interface into broader UK & Group boards as a key stakeholder

* Developing and reviewing appropriate KPIs to measure and communicate performance, working collaboratively with Group Business Planning, Finance and Insight to ensure Online benefits from the best insight and analysis available whilst ensuring clarity about Online plans

* Reflect forward-thinking and flexibility into the Online business model around emerging market dynamics, changing economic model and threats and opportunities - i.e., offering a responsive 'so what?' view on impacts to Online profit and growth

* Working closely together within a high calibre team (with business reporting, finance and trading experience) to deliver joined-up projects, leverage team members' capability and share specialist skills across the team

* Closely partnering the Head of Online Business Performance day-to-day in shaping and monitoring the Online business plan

* Supporting the wider upskilling and sharing of skills across the Online team

Ideal Candidate

Key Skills and Experience

You'll need to have demonstrated experience of:

* Highly developed analytical and financial analysis skills (e.g., building business cases and financial models)

* Experience developing financial targetry - i.e., setting stretching but realistic business objectives

* Good understanding of current and expected future customer trends and competitive landscape, with ability to synthesise 'so what?' for the business plan

* Experience of solving complex problems (both individually and as part of a team) and effectively communicating recommendations to senior stakeholders and broader audiences

* Support customer proposition development - helping turn customer insight and potential concepts into economically viable solutions

* Collaboration across a complex, matrix organisation

* Track-record of providing decision-support and risk management on high impact projects and engaging / influencing senior stakeholders

* Desirable: 5+ years Finance and/or business planning experience gained within major retail / FMCG player and/or Big 4
