Development Manager / Head of Architecture - Fintech SaaS

£70,000 - £80,000 + Benefits Package

We are a highly successful world-class UK-based Fintech SaaS vendor, currently embarking on an exciting growth journey after significant recent investment in new product and people.

Over the next 12 months the business will grow revenues significantly as a new flagship Enterprise SaaS platform is released as a unique proposition in the market.

With an existing and highly satisfied customer base of very well-known large international Blue-Chip enterprises. We are a secure and dynamically growing Software business with a 20 year history of stability and profit, currently employing c.50 people from brand new offices near Shrivenham on the Oxfordshire / Cotswolds border, and a new satellite office in Paddington, London. The next few years will be an exciting time for the company as growth explodes.

The Development Manager / Head of Architecture Role:

This is a very senior key position within the business, so as a Development Manager/Head of Architecture you must have experience and knowledge of software design, software development and architecture in an agile environment. We are looking for someone to come in with fresh ideas, but an evolutionary approach. There are many very exciting technologies for the future, but adoption needs to be evolutionary not revolutionary.

To start with, your role will primarily focus on the development of our flagship product and supporting our Head of Product in delivery of the product roadmap for the next 12 months. Your time will be split 60% between managing the developers, making sure they have the tools they need, helping the scrum master and product team refine processes, and putting together a delivery plan with the team, to support the product vision. You will essentially be responsible for how and when the product is delivered.

The rest of the time you will be making architecture and infrastructure decisions for the product as well as helping the team to implement them. For this reason you should have strong AWS/cloud experience, and be able to make well thought out, and knowledgeable technical decisions while using the expertise within the team. This role is very much hands on in terms of technical detail and development.

The role will include the following responsibilities:

+ Based in our Head Office, you will manage our technical team - currently 6 developers in the Shrivenham Head Office, 3 in London, and 4 in Moldova

+ Continued technical Architecture/Infrastructure design for our flagship product as the roadmap progresses

+ Be the go-to person for technical advice and decisions

+ Own the resourcing and recruitment strategy for all developers across the team

+ Establish career development plans and oversee the appropriate training, mentoring and coaching for all developers.

+ Conduct timely annual performance reviews setting a culture of high performance, ensuring the process cascades to all levels within the department.

Other important strategic areas the role will need to cover:

+ Testing strategy

+ Security policy

+ Performance and performance testing policy

+ Logging policy

Experience should include:

+ Proven ability to deliver Enterprise products to budget and time

+ You have technical & architectural expertise, and have evolved a growing code base, technology stack and architecture over many years

+ Have delivered Enterprise distributed cloud applications

+ Understand the value of high quality code and can effectively manage technical debt

+ Ideally you would have experience in SaaS solutions and Financial Services

+ Proven stakeholder management

+ Proven ability to wear many hats, technical, operational, strategic, customer/client facing

+ Proven experience mentoring and growing technology and development teams and understand how to hire good developers

+ Experience with teams distributed across multiple locations

Other Skills:

+ Great motivator of people and able to lead by example

+ Understand how to get the most out of people and how teams fit together

+ Delivery of products to tight deadlines but with a focus on high quality code

+ Understanding of enterprise development vs consumer development

+ Up to date knowledge of technical applications

+ Good knowledge of quality standards, legislation and best practice

+ Experience of working in the financial services is a nice to have

Developer Skills:

+ Language: PHP (7.1+ onwards), Typescript/Javascript, HTML(5), CSS(3), XML

+ Frameworks: Symfony 3/4 (or equivalent Laravel, zend etc)

+ Cloud services: AWS - specifically EC2, S3, SQS, SES & DynamoDb

+ Database: MySQL/Postgres

It would also be advantageous to have a knowledge of the following: Angular (5+), Python (2.7+), Composer, CSS Bootstrap, Material design, Redis, Apache server, NoSql databases, GIT, Linux environments.

Methodologies: Agile/Kanban, TDD/BDD, Continuous integration and Delivery.

Skillset: Analysis, OO design specification, programming, mentoring & training, Documentation
