I am currently recruiting for a highly-successful SME level business who are looking to hire an Embedded Firmware Engineer, to be an integral part of there Engineering team.

As the Firmware Engineer, you will be responsible for developing firmware for mission critical systems operating in harsh environments, building on existing communication protocols and developing new protocols for future tools.

Duties:

* Specify, design, and code embedded firmware for downhole and surface tools

* Provide input in technical reviews

* Manage full life-cycle development of new and existing products

* Interface with other engineering teams in order to determine hardware resource requirements

* Testing and validation of all new development/improvements with in-depth system testing

* Application of project management processes

* Provide support to our service personnel and clients

Essential Skills:

* A degree in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or Mathematics

* A minimum of 5 years' experience in embedded development

* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills which support custom algorithm and downhole communication protocol design

* Familiar with good coding practices - this includes source control and static code analysis

* The ability to estimate development timescales and produce design documentation

* Experience with Bare-metal programming

* Practical knowledge of wireless protocols, low-level understanding of interfacing techniques and communication

* Embedded C and experience with 8/16/32 bit micro-controllers

* Experience with digital signal processing (DSP)

* An understanding of digital electronics with the ability to follow circuit diagrams and use tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analysers

Desirable Skills:

* Experience with downhole tools in the oil and gas industry

* Low-power battery systems

* Experience designing high reliability systems

* Experience with Labview

* Other experience in programming in a PC based language for GUI development would be beneficial
