Computer Systems Engineer - Linux (VN18 60)

As we continue to develop our ground segment computer systems, we are looking for an engineer with a wide range of IT expertise to help evolve and maintain computer systems in our operational, high-availability environments.

Your role at EUMETSAT:

Reporting to, and on occasion deputising for, the Computing Services Team Leader you will be responsible for the design, maintenance and evolution of our ground segment computer systems. You will provide engineering support and maintenance to the operational computer systems, help design architectural evolutions of computer system infrastructure, undertake upgrade activities and manage the procurements of operating systems (OS) and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software and hardware.

With proven experience in maintaining large scale computer systems in operational time critical environments you should have a qualification in computer science or equivalent to degree level. You should have a deep knowledge of Linux with a good command of UNIX and Windows operating systems. An associated knowledge of clustering, fail-over mechanisms, virtualisation and cloud computing is also mandatory. We would also expect you to have previously provided computer services following and embracing ITIL best practice.

We expect you to have strong interpersonal and communication skills with excellent organisational and time management capabilities. You should be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.
