Head of Sales - Niche Electronic Instruments
Cardiff
Up to £60,000 + car + benefits (depending on experience)
The Company
Our client, part of a highly successful international parent, is an exciting entrepreneurial high-tech electronics company, who specialise in developing and delivering high quality niche instrumentation for a demanding international customer base.
The Role
As part of the local senior management team, work closely with the managing director in the design and implementation of sales and new product strategies for all products across UK & international markets
Manage and deliver strong growth in line with short and long term business forecasts
Lead and develop the sales team whilst taking "hands on" personal ownership for the profitable development of a niche product range within regulated industrial and commercial international markets
Motivate the sales team to hit sales targets & margins; implement better systems to manage performance
Take ownership of pricing , prepare annual sales budgets, business forecasts and manage all sales resources
Act as the lead between the company and its’ established network of Distributors
Undertake country specific research for new partners, identify and eliminate constraints or barriers to entry
Personally lead all major sales tenders and support Distributors with the more complex or higher value contracts
Promote active, profitable relationships for increasing ‘grass roots’ market intelligence
Interpret technical input from customers and act as the conduit between field requirements and the in house engineering department on product specifications and design matters
Act as the facilitator in ensuring the product is fit for purpose and delivered in a timely fashion
Maintain all compliance requirements with specific legal, regulatory and quality standards
Act as the company expert on the commercial aspects of the products
Deliver technical presentations to the international community as required
Ensure that the business remains "up to date" on specific country legislation, directives and licence agreements
Monitor, evaluate and report on competitor developments
Adopt a "hands on" approach in the preparation of sales literature/aids; attend international conferences and exhibitions as necessary
Responsible for the development of all Distributor training (non- technical)
The Candidate
A broad based scientific or engineering background with an understanding of the fundamentals of mechanical, electronic and software engineering
A track record of developing UK & International sales; including relevant spells within b2b business development, sales or product management with an extensive knowledge of managing an overseas distribution network
Strong leadership, coaching & team development skills
Be able to combine the strategic skills required with a "hands on" approach to the day to day challenges of managing an international distributor base
Able to demonstrate technical credibility with customers and be able to operate within an international business that achieves sales growth through a distribution network
Sectors that would be particularly relevant might include: - automotive, electronics, telecoms, medical devices, health & safety, transport & haulage, instrumentation, controls or other niche industrial/commercial applications
An enthusiasm for technology, an inquisitive mind and be able to think "outside of the box"
A familiarity of the requirements for working within regulated markets and a proven track record in managing often complex government tenders
Strong planning, finance, IT and administration skills
Able to evaluate complex scenarios and lifecycle management in order to make effective decisions
A highly accomplished communicator who is able to achieve results by influence rather than demand
Strong relationship management skills, including a high level of integrity and business ethics
An appreciation of cultural sensitivity and a willingness to travel overseas as required
Fluency with an additional European language would be beneficial, but is not an essential requirement
