Job Title: Engineering / Design Technology Technician

Salary: £23,575 - £25,616 per annum

Job type: Permanent, Part time - 3 days per week (Term Time Only)

The College is a highly successful and popular Catholic sixth form located on three sites in south east London. They specialise in meeting the needs of sixth form students, and have an established track record of excellent examinations success. Their Financial Status is Outstanding and in 2017 they were graded as a good college by Ofsted.

The Role

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Technician to support the delivery of Design and Technology and Engineering. You will work at their Emmanuel site in Lewisham on three days per week for 40 weeks per year. You will be responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the Design and Technology workshop and studio.

In addition, there is an opportunity to support teaching in the department for a suitably qualified candidate who would like to take on additional responsibility and be remunerated accordingly.

Key Responsibilities:

* Check and maintain machinery, tools, components and accessories including determining maintenance schedules and keeping appropriate records.

* Ensure general maintenance of the Design Studio and maintenance of workshop facilities including general tidiness.

* Prepare a range of materials and equipment for teaching purposes including wood, metal, plastics and simple electronics. Prepare, set up and check machinery, equipment and apparatus for teaching purposes. Assist in the setting up and maintenance of software and machines. Help with the preparation of worksheets and booklets for teaching purposes and any publicity material used for Open Day or other departmental events.

* Issue equipment, tools and components materials to teaching staff and students.

* Provide technical advice and assistance to teaching staff and students.

* Develop, construct and advise on the development and construction of three dimensional teaching aids. To help develop new co-ordinated project for students.

* Order materials and equipment and maintain a system of stock control including:

* Participating in the selection of new items of equipment and recommend specific purchases where necessary

* Investigate sources of supply and maintain a bank of purchasing information

* Co-ordinate departmental orders, including processing and progressing

* Receive deliveries, certifying invoices for payment and keeping financial records regarding progress of expenditure

* Maintain stock records and levels, including stock books

* Help with the organisation and re-organisation of workshops, specialist rooms and storerooms

* Maintain satisfactory standards of safety and security in relation to the technical service to the Department.

* Assist staff with the design and development of robotic and computer aided design projects within the department.

* Liaise with other departments within the College and with other establishments and bodies.

The Candidate:

An understanding of, and support for, the Catholic ethos of the College.

* Educated to A Level or equivalent in appropriate subjects or relevant experience.

* A minimum of 2 years experience (including training period) in a related role.

* 4 Multimedia workshop skills in relation to hand and machine tools used in Schools and colleges.

* Ability to construct teaching aids using basic workshop skills.

* To possess effective communication skills and the ability to establish professional relationships with staff and students.

* Knowledge and willingness to learn applications of new technologies in the Design and Technology workshops.
