Main Responsibilities

As the leader of Tesco Labs, you are leading a multi-disciplinary team to create - using an intelligent combination of both internal & external resources - visions & prototypes for the future of retail and, by rapid experimentation, identify and build new propositions for customers & colleagues that address key customer and business needs.

As Head of Labs, you will be accountable for:

RESEARCH

- Detailed understanding of the latest advancements and trends in the technology space for retail

- Build a network of external partners allowing for cross-fertilization of new ideas from inside & outside of Tesco

- Partner with the Insight and Foresight team to share research and keep abreast of evolving consumer trends.

- Sustain great relationships w/ stakeholders in Tesco (across the group) to identify suitable problem spaces to focus on

& to assure ideas generated are well embedded into Tesco future plans

- Create bold and stretching visions that describe the future of retail (2-5years and 10 year +)

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

- Drive a portfolio of innovation projects based on an appropriate Innovation Management Phasing Model

- Drive an end to end innovation process for generating ideas through to building and incubating an early stage product.

- Create hypotheses and experiments ensuring that every experiment has objectives and key results defined, including economic viability

- Define Objectives & Key Results Playbooks to document result and assure a proper handover to the receiving team

OPEN INNOVATION

- Create and sustain the developer community using our APIs via the developer portal

- Drive for open participation of idea-generators anywhere at TESCO through an appropriate framework

- Create partnerships and sponsorship opportunities with academics, startups, VCs and tech suppliers.

LEADERSHIP

Responsible for a team of 30 people (Researchers, Data scientists, Software engineers, UX designers, product managers & Open innovation / comms managers. I have a budget which allows me to work with 3rd parties, buy new tech and sponsor events
