As a Senior IT Engineer, you’ll provide third line support, maintenance and optimization for systems, infrastructure and applications. At this level, you’ll be tackling more complex assignments and managing other technical staff. Leadership will be a key task and you’ll be organizing the workflow of your team. But this is also about coaching staff and making sure they give their best. The aim is an effective and flexible IT service that supports students throughout their journey, so you’ll be inspiring great performance and encouraging improvement.

At the same time, you’ll be resolving incidents, managing problems and handling any requests. You’ll also lead optimisation of applications and infrastructure so they always work at their best. That means delivering patches and checking that all applications and components have been thoroughly tested. Meanwhile, you’ll be ensuring the production service is protected, along with maintenance releases. And to guarantee we get value for money, you’ll help to manage supplier relationships.

Degree-educated (or with equivalent experience or a professional qualification), you’ll be used to supporting enterprise class infrastructure solutions and technologies. You’ll also be well versed in Microsoft technologies and other IT products including:

Windows Server 2008 and later

Windows Client 7 / 10

Office 365

Active Directory

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and later

System Center (SCCM).

You’ll also have experience in a diverse IT infrastructure environment, plus a methodical, analytical and detail-conscious approach. A natural problem solver, you’ll thrive on fixing issues, but also have the communication skills to deal with customers, colleagues and suppliers.
