HR / L&D - Early Careers Talent Specialist

12-month interim contract

East Sussex

£25-28 per hour (LTD / Umbrella)

Our client is a leading engineering an manufacturing company. They are seeking an Interim Early Careers Talent Specialist who can take responsibility for the design, implementation and co-ordination of their early career programmes including: Work Experience, Internships, Apprenticeships, Year-In Industry, Graduates and any other early careers initiatives in order to support the development of the future talent pipeline.

Key Accountabilities:

* Create and own a recruitment strategy, outreach and partnership plans for appropriate colleges and universities at both undergraduate and graduate level; acting as a liaison for outreach with industry organisations (including diversity partner organisations), panels, job fairs etc. centred on an early career audience

* Design and implement relevant and fully effective apprenticeship and graduate frameworks

* Collaborate with Marketing Communications & the HR Manager to develop creative ways to increase the company's brand and profile in the talent marketplace

* Collaborate with the BA talent team to share best practice across all aspects of talent development

* Ensure smooth onboarding & transitions between Early Career Programme rotations

* Co-ordinate and support the internal STEM ambassadors in building strong partnerships with external contacts to maximise outreach opportunities

* Driving a consistent and exemplary candidate experience, covering the full candidate lifecycle (attraction, recruitment, onboarding) across all of the early career programmes

* Responsible for managing work experience requests

* Coordinate and attend relevant recruitment fairs and other industry events to promote opportunities

* Introduce a comprehensive recruitment and selection process for all early career programmes

* Responsible for induction of all those in early career roles

* Form good working relationships with local schools, colleges, universities and other training providers to attract candidates

* Manage internal recruitment activities (e.g. graduating apprentices) to ensure a smooth transition into a substantive position following completion of their early careers programme

* Working closely with managers to ensure that learners are studying suitable qualifications in line with current operational requirements and strategy

* Ensuring that academic / theory and vocational courses / qualifications are fit for technical and organisational purpose

* Conducting structured appraisals which combine past performance review, future objective setting from which job training and personal skills development needs are identified and put into action plans

* Working in partnership with training providers to ensure that learners are supported effectively in accordance with learning agreements and business requirements to deliver results on time and to an excellent standard

* Timetable / rotational plans - design, maintenance and management

* Internal development programmes - design, maintenance and management

* Introduce a formal mentoring system for those in early career roles

* Co-ordinating ad-hoc activities and events some of which may fall outside of working hours including some weekends (e.g. promotional / CSR / Industry initiatives)

* Preparing, agreeing with HR and monitoring an annual early careers budget

* Managing the Government Apprenticeship Levy ensuring it is fully utilised

* Support in collecting feedback to continuously improve our Early Career Programmes

Skills / Experience:

* Degree in HR Management, Learning & Development (or equivalent)

* Substantial experience of working in HR or L&D

* Experience of managing Apprentices is essential (ideally within an engineering environment)

* Experience of managing Graduates, Intern and work experience schemes is essential

* Experience of attending careers fairs / skills fairs is essential

* Ability and willingness to be hands-on

* Good up-to-date knowledge of employment law relating to those in early career

* Good working knowledge and experience of the Apprentice Levy

* Good Communication (written and oral) and listening skills

* Commercial awareness and business acumen

* Able to manage and drive projects successfully

* Willingness to travel to other UK sites (40%)

* Drive, commitment and self-motivation in abundance

* Strong IT skills - including databases, word, excel, email, internet, PowerPoint

* Accurate, methodical with excellent attention to detail

* Flexible, with the ability to prioritise and work under pressure

* Team player and able to work independently
