You know what makes people tick and what makes servers hum.To say that cyber-security is a hot topic is something of an understatement. It’s the talk of governments, electoral regulators, corporations, public-sector bodies, families and individuals. You may have even used your thumb-print to open your phone to read this.
It’s everywhere; the scope of the potential threat seems insurmountable.
In the jobs market that means we’re looking for a vanishingly small number of people who even understand the complexity of those threats, let alone have the skills to help society overcome them. There are so few of you, the chances of you even reading this are pretty slim.
Mind you, you’ve seen a few niche industries come and go before, so you’d be wary of jumping into ‘the next big thing’. But you’re also wise enough to know that cyber-security isn’t just ‘a thing’, it’s everything.
We need someone like you to help us fill a certain category of cyber-security training jobs.
Even though this is typically called a ‘recruiter’ role, it’s essentially a networking role. In simple terms, you’ll be looking for, and offering training jobs to, cyber-security practitioners - some of who will be people like you.
You’ll need to understand the technology, but we don’t necessarily need someone who lives and breathes in code. Maybe you know about the industry through work. Perhaps you work in the police, in security, or in a broader IT management or consultancy role. It’s unlikely, but maybe it’s simply a hobby.
We are looking for someone with contacts; you’ll need to know roughly who’s out there and where to look. You’ll find and engage with people with some tech skills and possibly some pre/post-sales support skills, so knowing what makes people tick is going to be as important as understanding what makes servers hum.
One thing you will need to own, completely, is the recruitment process.
That will span advice to line managers, research on salaries, swotting up on interview techniques, writing better jobs ads than this, using social media for more than pictures of your dinner, telephone interviewing, sorting right-to-work checks and keeping forensically detailed records.
