Director position, Department for "Systems Biology"

We are looking for a Head of Department, Director, for the Systems Biology department within the Research organization of our client's headquarters. The position is located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

the comapny research comprises the four areas Molecular design & Innovation, Biotherapeutic Discovery, Neuroscience and Global Patents & Trademarks.

Systems Biology is one of four departments, all together forming the Neuroscience organization at the Research function. The Neuroscience organization is supporting projects in the preclinical as well as clinical portfolio with biological and pharmacological research.

The Neuroscience organization is formed by the following four departments:

Signal Transduction focusing on intracellular signaling pathways

Proteinopathy focusing on processes around protein misfolding induced cell degeneration

Systems Biology focusing on linking molecular pathology to brain circuits and disease symptoms

Translational Biology focusing on establishing translation between research and clinic

The position

Role and responsibilities

* People manager for the department of Systems Biology, responsible for people development

* Ensuring technology and data quality

* Budget responsibility for internal as well as external finances

* Identification, definition, maturation and maintenance of collaborations and partnerships

* Program scouting and BD support

* Strategic orientation contribution

* Member of the Neuroscience management team - consistent of the four Department Directors and the 4 Therapeutic Biology leads

* Member of the Research Leadership team (all Department Directors) - responsible for

* Member of the Research Committee

Candidate background

* Neuroscientist with PhD or MD/PhD from relevant area

* Preferable background within Neurology, scientific and technological insight to brain circuits and symptomatic profile of neurological disorders.

* Background from pharmaceutical or biotech industry with leadership experience

The Systems Biology department

* The department for Systems Biology is supporting the client projects with data and insight bridging molecular and cellular processes, as well as pathological processes therein, to the context of brain circuits and clinical symptoms. To this end, the group utilizes ex vivo and in vivo technologies to address functional consequences of molecular and cellular signaling to the brain.

* Ca. 25 - 30 employees

* Two sections, designated "Circuits" and "Symptoms", headed by section heads that are direct reports to the Director position

* Staff comprising academics (PhD), lab technicians, MSc and PhD students, external funded junior scientists

* Technology span: slice electrophysiology, histology, stereotactic surgery, microdialysis, behavior

* Project support across portfolio, including all 4 disease areas

* Support to clinical development projects if relevant

* Development of laboratory assays and research models required by biological focus areas and projects.

The Neuroscience organization at Research function

* Biology and Pharmacology support to drug discovery

* Support to all stages from idea generation to advanced research projects

* Support to clinical development programs with scientific experimental and theoretical input

* Equal balance between internal and external research

* Ca 100 staff members, comprising academics, lab technicians and students
