Help the Cabinet Office become more innovative and efficient

The Cabinet Office is central to the functioning of the British government. From supporting the design and deployment of policies that will enhance the wellbeing of the nation, to overseeing the successful delivery of public services and the security of the realm, our work directly affects every single member of the population. In order to meet the changing needs of our community, multiple projects are constantly underway within the Cabinet Office, and as such, the Portfolio Office has been newly-created to oversee the functioning and development of these projects and programmes.

Providing visible leadership to the team, you will be central to the success of this important unit as you develop its core capabilities and embed the team within the heart of the Cabinet’s corporate functions. This role will therefore require you to engage closely with key senior stakeholders across the Cabinet Office, agreeing the work that needs to be done and the timescale that it needs to be achieved in. When problems arise, you will come up with innovative solutions to resolve them, and you will ensure a regular flow of management information and support is available to a variety of teams such as Project Delivery, the Executive Committee and Investment Approvals Committee. Implementing your project management standards across the Cabinet, you will ensure systems and processes are developed to the highest standards, including governance and risk management.

This is a fast-paced role that is integral to the improved efficiency of our programmes. You will therefore have experience of leading a major programme or project in government or within a government supplier, with particular strengths in performance management, reporting, assurance, governance and risk management. It would be particularly beneficial if you have experience in a Portfolio Management Office. With a good understanding of producing management information, you will be a natural leader with the ability to inspire results from your team. Confident in allocating resources, you will have good analytical and project management capabilities and experience of investigating and resolving complex issues in challenging situations. Crucially, you will have the capacity to work collaboratively with stakeholders, and accreditation in PLP, MSP or Prince2 would be desirable.

With access to a range of high-profile and nationally-important projects plus an enviable work/life balance and plenty of training and development opportunities, the Cabinet Office offers a career prospect that is hard to beat. Our people work flexibly as a team to secure the best results, so if you think you would excel in a dynamic and changeable environment where goals are shared, then we would be delighted to receive your application.
