Director of Health and Safety - £competitive salary, Market Leading, Global Engineering Organisation

I am recruiting on behalf of a global engineering support organisation and market leader across multiple industries worldwide. This particular role functions within their Nuclear Business, providing engineering services across the full spectrum of the nuclear industry.

The HSE Director is responsible for creating a compelling HSE vision and working across the breadth of the business to leave a positive HSE Legacy. Having the gravitas to influence at all levels, you will ensure the development and implementation of industry leading practice.

Main Purpose of Role

* Provide expert advice and direction to the Sector Board on current and future (both UK and international) Health, Safety, Environmental & Radiation Protection legislation, guidance and practices to ensure continual improvement.

* Be the figurehead of HSER and proactively engage with the business to ensure ownership and accountability for HSER improvement

* Develop and influence a positive culture towards Health, Safety, Environment and Radiation Protection within the Sector and drive behavioural safety through effective initiatives

* Lead and direct the BU HSE Business Partner leads, ensuring that they continually strive to embed a positive Health, Safety, Environment and Protection culture to minimise the risk of an accident or injury occurring

* Develop relationships with external bodies, clients and stakeholders to ensure a collaborative working environment and opportunity to develop and apply best practices

* Manage the integration of differing Health, Safety, Environmental and Radiation Protection cultures and work with other colleagues in different streams to ensure best practice approach

* Continually review current policies and procedures to ensure successful control of HSER risks and development of best practice.

* Prepare, monitor and analyse statistical data on Health, Safety, Environment and Radiation Protection trends and occurrences for sites, identifying corrective actions as required

* Accountable for the delivery of effective communication of objectives to the BU HSE teams

* Ensure that regular audits, inspections and safety tours take place within the required standards and provide guidance on corrective actions where appropriate

* In coordination with the BU's, prepare plans and budgets for training and awareness related to Health, Safety, Environment & Radiation Protection requirements

* Provide leadership to direct reports and manage performance to ensure satisfactory performance through conducting 1-2-1, setting objectives and annual Performance Development Reviews

* Develop and implement KPI's for team and monitor success on a regular basis, identifying corrective actions as necessary

Requirements

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Experience of leading transformational change across a diverse business

* Experience as a Senior Director in a business with a workforce of over 2,000 and with multiple sites across different locations

* Experience of proactively engaging with senior management and other key stakeholders to improve HSER

* Extensive experience of delivering a high standard of compliance and exceptional health, safety, environmental and radiation protection statistics

* Identification and management of legislative changes for all aspects of HSER

* Candidates must have a proven track record of embedding HSER behavioral change in relation to a safety culture on both operational sites and office based environments

* Multi-Site HSER experience

* Demonstrable performance improvement experience

* Demonstrable experience of bespoke strategy implementation and system design

* Previous work experience in implementing, maintaining and auditing: ISO 9001, BSI ISO 14001 and BSI OHSAS 18001

Qualifications:

* Degree level of Education

* Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management (NEBOSH or BSC)

* Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety or other appropriate discipline
